Is a disposable really needed with a happy nappy swim suit

I generally just use a disposable nappy under a swim costume (this has worked for previous two children), DD2 has only been swimming twice at 6 months but seems to love the pool, she certainly loves her bath. We're going away in August to a villa with private pool and I'm thinking she will be in and out of the pool a lot so swim nappies will take up a lot of luggage space ( I always take swim nappies and disposable nappies as they are so much more expensive abroad). I started to wonder about buying a reusable swim nappy and have found happy nappys seem to be about the best. On the web site they say they are fine to use by themselves but a liner may help with the cleanup of any mess, however most people on any discussions seem to use a disposable underneath so I wondered why and if it was totally necessary. It seems to be pretty pointless if that was the case as I would still have to use all the luggage space in the disposables as well as paying out for the happy nappy costume.
Btw I know people say often babies don't poo in the water but maybe I'm just unlucky but all 3 of mine have on a fairly regular basis (they have all been breast fed so may be that)

Something inside a happy nappy is essential. They don't poo in the pool often, but when they do, removing a happy nappy without pinging it up the wall is almost impossible.

Disposable swim nappies can be dried out and reused several times though - don't feel you need to take loads with you.

I have always used a disposable with the happy nappy- thought of scooping out the poo really doesn't appeal

It will definitely not stay contained in the happy nappy alone, I wouldn't risk the use of the pool for the time you're there.

Ok, thanks. Didn't know a swim nappy can be reused so may consider that. The other option is the nappy liner by happy nappy has anyone used that under the swimsuit happy nappy?

I teach baby swimming. All our pools insist on parents using a double nappy but we're seeing more and more (and are recommending) reusable under nappies. These are the ones we'd recommend, they're really adjustable so you can use it from newborn to potty trained and for a tenner it's way cheaper and more environmentally friendly than buying disposable ones.

Forgot to say for holiday obviously a reusable would be great as will take up way less room in your suitcase too...

Plipplops when you say reusable do you mean the system happy nappy have to go under their swimsuits?

We use a reusable Bambino Mio nappy under our Happy Nappy for swimming lessons - have worked a treat for both boys so far.

Jobelly do you mean this? If so then yes. We make our babies wear a neoprene nappy (ideally the Splashabout Happy Nappy as they have really good cuff bits) as well as an under nappy which can be a washable reusable or a disposable one. It's a belt and braces system really to do all you can to stop any poo from getting in the pool (bleurgh). We're seeing more people using the reusable ones which makes lots of sense both financially and environmentally.

Yes plipplops, that's what I mean - not got the right size in though but will shop around for it or will look at bambino mia.
Thanks for all the help.
