I wont to know why there is no watershed on the radio . I try really had to protect my 3 boys from inappropriate images , but the radio news seems to go in to every gory detail . Is it just me or is this wrong.

They probably aren't listening or comprehending. And as they get older then the word picture they imagine will be less graphic than telly images.

What an interesting question! Usually when people complain about the lack of a watershed on the radio they're thinking of squelchy snogging in The Archers or swearwords in plays. I hadn't really considered the effect of the news.

But which stations are you referring to? And how old are your DCs? And what do you, in particular, find inappropriate?

I find I "trust" the R4 and World Service news a helluva lot more than TV because it seems just slightly less agenda-d. With no impetus to present a striking visual image there seems more time for discussion - and they cover a lot more ground, physically and metaphorically. The same with radio from other countries.

I don't think it's wrong - and I would want a child to be exposed to both (with adequate supervision and explanation,) leaning in favour of the radio as they mature.

I only listen to radio2 ,I enjoy most of their daytime programs. I am to old for radio 1 and I don't like constant adverts on commercial stations. But yesterday's Jeramy Vine show I think was the last straw.
Child abuse in any form is disgusting and the world should be made aware,I just think they don't need to be so descriptive during the day.
They don't know who is listening.
I have 3 boys 10,8,and 3 they listen to everything that is said even if it seems like they aren't, the oldest is starting to get curious about the world and ask questions, which we always try to answer. In the past week he has asked me to turn the news off because it upset him.
Kids understand hurt and pain, I know the images in their head are more gentle than in an older persons but what about other victims they are hearing the same things .
I think radio should be regulated in the same way a tv is. I don't care if they swear ,and talk about all sorts of adult themes at the appropriate time.

I've rather lost touch with how TV (the BBC at least) is regulated but I honestly don't think watersheds would be viable on radio. IPlayer and live streaming is available everywhere - your 8pm would be different on another continent no?

Two suggestions - switch to R4 - there's more context for distressing news. (And remember the people living through those things can't switch it off...)

Get in touch with "Feedback" (R4) You might actually get an answer from a BBC bod.
