Why do you think he did this?

DS (age 6) told me that he was now sitting beside child X, ie that child X had been moved to beside him and that Child Y had been moved to X's seat. No other children had been moved. He was quite insistent that this HAD happened.

Given that his teacher sits them by ability (whole other thread...) I did wonder about this. I had to nip into class this morning and saw that Child X had not been moved, I quietly asked DS 'I though X sat beside you now' and he said he'd been joking.

I'm just wondering why he made this up. He does tell fibs but when called on it admits he's joking.

DS alwaaaaaaays does stuff like this. He's nearly 5. I have no idea why he does it sometimes as the things he comes out with are odd! Did you seem to be curious or a bit fobbed off that the teacher did this? It may have been a reaction thing he was looking for.
I find DS really tests us with stuff like this, for example he will tell one story to DP and another to me, to test our different reactions on different situations and how we would each feel about them.

I would give a reaction in future such as 'Ok, I'll ask the teacher tomorrow' and leave it at that.

I probably did seem very curious because of the ability table thing so he maybe picked up on that. Child X is one of the older / cleverer ones in the class and I think DS sort of wants to be his friend, so it might have been that as well.
