Weenees nappies...anyone else use/d them? Washing advice needed.

We've been using them for about 2 months and have been happy with them until some of our waterproof inners have started leaking! I'm very cross as they were not cheap, but am a bit hesitant to somplain as they will prob just say I washed them wrongly. Did I? I must confess to washing at 40 oC rather than 30 oC (as our machine doesn't do 30) but would that really make all the difference?

Haven't used Weenees but equally haven't met any nappies that need to be washed at 30 rather than 40. Have they been tumble dried? NOt sure what difference that makes (as we don't have a tumble drier) but maybe it could?

No we don't have a tumble dryer. Difference of 10 oC does seem an unlikely culprit doesn't it?!

Mine are fine, but I didn't use them heavily. The waterproof inners aren't too expensive are they?

Astrophe · 27/08/2006 22:40

well, they are £3.50 each and if I have to buy 6 new ones every 2 months...

would you mind sharing your washing routine with me? ie, dry bucket or soak/bleach, drying method, wash tepm...?

oh only 2 months- yes that is a bit steep, even with light use mine lasted longer than that. I would soak nappies- you know the prefold bit, but the waterproof bits- no straight into a 40 degree wash. If I thought it needed extra washing then I would soak with soap in warm water. Air dry.

That's the same routine as I followed with Sam I Am plastic pants years ago - they were heavily used and lasted well, so although weenies weren't tested in the same way I would expect them to last using that method.

worth asking definitely.

JoJoBrooks · 17/12/2006 20:34

hi , i use weenees and they were fine for about 2 moths then started leaking! i must admit i just thought that it was cause my son had got older and was wetting more, but after reading your link i'm not so sure! it's almost as if the waterproof inner has streched!

did you manage to get a refund? would be interested to know as may have a go myself!
quite peeved as did cost a lot.

JoJoBrooks · 19/12/2006 23:04

bump!

SparklySnowflakeKid · 20/12/2006 18:43

Where did you buy them from?

JoJoBrooks · 21/12/2006 08:58

hi, sparkly.

i bought them through an advisor of team lollipop.

SparklySnowflakeKid · 21/12/2006 09:17

Give her a ring and ask one to be sent back for testing - they will send them to a fabric technician to see if they leak. They will probably say it is how you have washed/dried them - have been washed at 40. You could do your own wicking test - sit the pouch on a dry surface and tip 1/2 cup water in - not too much - leave for about 5 mins, empty out water carefully and see if the outside of the pouch is wet... not very technical but not far off what they do! It all depends on when you bought them aswell - if over 3 months old (or used for over 3 motnhs) they won't do anything as outside their warranty time - simply because before that amount of time any design/technical faults can be detected and are usually instantly obvious - after that time it is usually down to how the person has cared for their nappies. While this may seem harsh to people who do care for their nappies properly - lots of people do not follow the advice properly e.g. high temp washing/ high temp tumble drying / using fabric cond....etc etc!!

I have just been given some weenees that have been well used for when my bean gets big enough and her pouches albeit looking well worn still work after a year of use - but she hand washed them. When I used them myself with ds2 I regularly got new pouches as kept washing them at 60 with my other nappies by mistake!

SparklySnowflakeKid · 21/12/2006 09:25

I think the original weenees with pouch attached are much better design and easier to use - just been on another website

JoJoBrooks · 21/12/2006 09:27

thank for advice,

i washed them all at 30 as it said so on the label.

will give advisor a call, if she won't help might try buying new pouches, hand washing sounds good idea but bit time consuming.

SparklySnowflakeKid · 21/12/2006 09:45

Oh sorry - was OP who washed at 40! Def worth contacting her - if not about - ring their Head Office direct and speak to them about it - 01736 799512/3 - they will probably want to see one though. Good luck!

JoJoBrooks · 21/12/2006 09:49

just called her, she was really good and said she's gonna contact her leader and see what they say.

hopefully will get it sorted as don't really want to go out and buy a whole new set of different nappies. i really like the fit of these!

JoJoBrooks · 21/12/2006 12:23

oh my god, sparkly!

i tried what you said about putting some water in them (i placed them on kitchen roll) and was shocked!, after 15 mins the kitchen roll was soaked.

my poor little boy has been wearing them like this, no wonder he's got a sore bottom and thighs!

SparklySnowflakeKid · 21/12/2006 15:46

The pouch is probably rubbing against his thighs - if it is wet this will make his legs sore - this can happen with any wrap if the trim gets wet. It can aslo happen if the wrap is either too tight or too loose! If your advisor or her leader has a trial kit it may be worth asking if you can borrow it before you invest in any other nappies if you should decide to buy more. Something that goes with what you've already got would be best if you do change. You could ask your advisor for another demo of the other nappies they do and ask her advice on what would go well with what you have.

JoJoBrooks · 21/12/2006 15:55

yeah will do that,

mibht even ask for exchange if they'll do it.

quite pevved cause they can't do anything until after christmas now (understandibly) so he's gonna have to spend it in disposibles!

JoJoBrooks · 21/12/2006 15:56

might!

SparklySnowflakeKid · 21/12/2006 15:58

Wouldn't get too excited yet - nothing will happen til they have them tested and then only if they agree are faulty...! But you should be entitled to change for different nappy if they are faulty - they may offer to replace the pouches first off.

Have a happy christmas!

JoJoBrooks · 21/12/2006 16:09

i'd be happy with replacement pouches, to see how they go.

have a happy christmas too!
