Toddler too small for adult chair, but need high chair for baby

As it says! In about to start weaning my baby and need to move just two year old from high chair. What do people use in these situations? Booster seat? Tripp trapp style chair? Junior chair? I can't decide what would be best! Ideally I'd like her to be able to get into it herself. Sorry this must be the most boring thread ever...

Tripp trapp chair or Ikea Junior chair.

PrinceRogersNelson · 03/05/2014 13:35

We bought chairs from ikea. They have a smaller seat but are taller. Made for kids and are great. Still used by my 7 and 5 year olds

DirtyWeeRascal · 03/05/2014 13:36

Another vote for the ikea chair! I don't like my DS kneeling on an adult chair so this was perfect.

I used a Tripp trapp. In fact I am still using them now and dd is 10. I really like the fact that they can get up and down easily themselves and they are at the exact right height for the table.

every couple of years you can change the heights of the two horizontal parts.

Cheap and brilliant ikea Antilop highchair? Plenty of people have 2 highchairs on the go.

TheScience · 03/05/2014 13:44

We have a tripp trapp style one (but about £100 cheaper Grin) and a basic booster seat for visitors.

Tidypidy · 03/05/2014 13:46

We've got a basic plastic booster seat that clips on with a strap under the seat of the chair. Was bought for eldest about 6 years ago and cost about £8 I think. Dcs used a small step to get onto it. Anyway it's still going strong and will be used for dc3 soon. It's easily portable too so useful for taking away with us.

Ds was to big for high chair and booster at 2 years (he's 98th centile) he said it was uncomfy so I bought two chair cushions and put them one on top of each other to make him higher worked a treat and could be push in washing machine and drier. The ikea ones are very firm so they don't sink into them he's on just one now.

£12 strap on booster seat from argos. Has weathered two DCs, straps onto a normal dining chair and has no tray so you push them in at the table. Honestly the best £12 I've ever spent.

Thurlow · 03/05/2014 14:37

Another one using the booster seat for around a £10. The Ikea and Tripp Trapp chairs are great, but there's not that much point taking up extra room if the high chair will be up for the baby. DC loved their booster seat and sat in it happily to draw and paint as well.

MrsMaturin · 03/05/2014 14:39

We used our antilop at the table until our youngest was 4.

Letsgoforawalk · 03/05/2014 14:46

another 'ikea chair' vote. they are a great height and solid.

addictedtosugar · 03/05/2014 14:50

wee too had the strap on booster set up but friends have some of these, which I'd love.

AugustRose · 03/05/2014 14:55

We have an Ikea kids chair too, DD2 has been using it for 3 years and I'm just about to move my DS2 (3) onto it. It is very srudy and perfect height for the table.

I think I have the same thing as shadow. 2 Safety 1st booster seats (only come in pink or blue unfortunately) that strap onto the dining chairs. Both dc sit in them at the table.

ASmidgeofMidge · 03/05/2014 15:27

Booster seat here, too. DD was using it til she was 5 (she's v petite)

PassTheCremeEggs · 03/05/2014 18:44

Brilliant thanks everyone! I do really like the idea of the ikea junior chair. I have an antilop already which is what is being passed on to the baby and I suppose could always get another but I like the idea of her having a "grown up" chair.

I used a Kaboost (sorry on phone so can't link), basically boosts any chair up, like little stilts and has two height settings. Dd liked it as she was then sitting on the same chair as me. They are pretty pricey but I picked both of mine up second hand (one from NCT sale and the other from local fb selling pages).
