Could this be teething??

I posted a few days ago about DS going through a screaming stage.

It didn't occur to me until today that this fussiness could be down to teething as DS is so young (15 weeks tomorrow) but, the more I look back over the last week or so, it seems a distinct possibility.

DS has been:
Off his food. Terrible feeder anyway but he's started screaming the second the bottle is in his mouth. This started a few weeks ago (last bottle of the day-we just thought he was overtired) but he's screamed during every feeding attempt today. Managed to get a whole 10oz in him all day and he's fully dropped one bottle.
Constant dribbling.
Extreme fussiness/clinginess
Chewing/gnawing on hands. I've been reading this as tired as it's usually a sleepy cue
Nap refusing
Vomiting

His fussiness has peaked today; basically either screaming or shouting or being sick.

Is it possibly the start of teething? If so, is there anything I can do to help his symptoms (aside from bonjela/baby paracetamol and the usual remedies) and to encourage him to eat? Worried he's getting dehydrated as his last few nappies have been quite dark.

We'd only just got his reflux under control; I was so looking forward to having a happy baby for a while!:(

What has he been given for reflux?

It sounds more like reflux then teething.

My daughter has reflux, she's 10 months and it is mostly under control now apart from when she is ill or teething and then it comes back with a vengeance. It's possible your son is teething but what you describe sounds like reflux to me. What medication is he on?

Inapickle123 · 01/05/2014 22:53

He's on .9ml of ranitidine 3 times a day.
Looks like ill need to go back to the GP to see if this needs increased or if there's anything else I can give him.

My 10 week old DS is exhibiting some of the same symptoms and the nurse took one look at him and said he is teething. At 10 weeks! I was doubtful but thn DP went to massage his gums with teething gel and could feel a small tooth coming through.

As far as I recall the dose of ranitidine needs to increase as baby's weight increases, so it might be worthwhile getting it checked.

My LO was on lansaparazole, and thankfully that didn't need adjusting.

The reason I think it may not be teething is because I think most babies when teething, want to feed more not less, as sucking and biting helps ease the pain of their gums. But still, you could ask the dr to have a look.

I'm not sure about the other symptoms but the dribbling and chewing of hands sounds like teething. My dd is 14 weeks and started doing the same thing a couple of weeks ago. We can see two little teeth under the surface of the gum although we can't feel them yet. With ds he started teething early too, but his first tooth only came through when he was about 7 months iirc. It can take ages!

Cariad007 · 02/05/2014 21:00

7 months?? I'm not sure I can deal with DS's current level of grumpy for the next 5 months!!

PickleMobile · 02/05/2014 21:03

If it's teething You can look at their gums and you can generally see the outline of the tooth that's coming through underneath the gum line iykwim.
