... who run away at the sight of a bristle.
Getting to the point now where there's a permanent knotty, birds nesty bit at the back from lying on her pillow so I need to sort it. It's been cut twice but still goes mad.
Thanks!

We use a tangle teaser

ThreeLannistersOneTargaryen · 01/05/2014 19:50

Tangle teezer. The kind without a handle. And lots of conditioner.

pizzachickenhotforyou · 01/05/2014 19:51

Third vote for tangle teazer

And a fourth, they're lifesavers Smile

Mine screams until I relent and use the nit comb. You'd think that would hurt more. But it's the only thing she lets me use on her curls without the street thinking in beating her.

JiltedJohnsJulie · 01/05/2014 19:53

4th vote for the tangle teezer. We've got this one.

Orangeanddemons · 01/05/2014 19:56

Tangle tamers brushes are better than tangle teeters.

Dd has really curly thick hair. The tamer goes through much better than the teezer

Brookville · 01/05/2014 19:57

Thanks All! Tangle thingy it is. Lol tangle teeter!

And a 6th for the tangle tamer. A-mazing!

She's happy to brush her own hair now rather than run screaming from the suggestion of hair brushing!

PollyP0429 · 01/05/2014 20:13

From experience, only comb her hair when you wash it. Plenty of conditioner and comb it with a tangle teaser then. Is it long enough to plait yet? If so they work a treat for a bedtime hairdo.

I had waist length, thick, frizzy, curly hair that my mum struggled with for years, this is what worked for us.

DharmaBumpkin · 01/05/2014 20:18

Tangle teezer here too... And not brushing unless actually in Bath, with conditioner on, or if needs must spraying with loads of homemade leave in conditioner.

Also don't wash it with shampoo often. Often use an astringent tea tree conditioner to 'shampoo' it, follow it with a normal conditioner.

Brookville · 01/05/2014 21:06

Dharma interesting point you make about not washing often. She's 2 and hair is pretty short still. I wash once a week as she hates it but it can smell a tad musty... Does conditioner get the dirt/grease/dust out?

Brookville I find her hair is softer, shinier & more manageable if I conditioner-wash. I use cheap & cheerful Alberto Balsam 'tea tree tingle' conditioner, & massage her scalp gently but thoroughly with it.

Also brush it in the bath etc and not after the bath... Let it drip dry after a careful squeeze with a towel rather than 'drying' it with the towel. DD2's hair remains less knotty when the curls have been allowed to form their own way rather than being altered!

LittleOldWineDrinker · 04/05/2014 10:27

We also swear by the Johnson's leave in tangle spray (it's in a green bottle) to get a brush through our curly haired DD. Magic stuff!

DharmaBumpkin · 04/05/2014 10:30

I use the Aussie leave in conditioner... More expensive but I can't stand the smell of the kids ones! Then I reuse the bottle for home made solution (10% normal conditioner, 90% water, shake well before each use) a couple of times before the spray nozzle gives up the ghost!

hotcrosshunny · 04/05/2014 17:19

How curly? I would never use a brush on dd's tight curly hair. No way!

I use silicone and sulfate free shampoo and conditioner otherwise over time the silicones build up and actually make it quite wiry.

Boots rainforest moisture range is brilliant for dd's hair - as every conditioner I tried while would be OK at first after a few washes her hair just felt wiry. Now it is really nice and soft.

I comb her hair in sections when wet with conditioner, then rinse but keep smoothing her hair so it doesn't retangle. Then dry by smoothing the towel not rubbing. Then plait it loosely (I wash her hair in the evening). Morning I spray with water and comb then style.

Nothing to add here just marking my place. DD is only 4 months but just have a feeling she's going to take after her dad with curly hair and I'm dreading having to deal with it. Mine has a few kinks but is pretty straight so no experience in managing curls.
