Nappy thrush and general sore bum!

Hi

My 4 week old DD had had not rash for a few weeks. Last Thursday it got so bad that I took her to GP who said it was thrush. Prescribed Daktarin which made it worse, so saw on call GP who prescribed Timodebe on Saturday. We should have stopped using yesterday but I'm aware it can be used for 7 days so going to use til Saturday. Rash is still present- but not as bad. Though still looks red raw. I'm fairly confident it's caused by her poo- she's exclusively breast fed and poos probably 8 times a day- the usual bright yellow, seedy, runny poo.
I'm using the Timodebe twice a day, had been using metanium thinly at every nappy change, though yesterday I tried the Burt's bees multipurpose ointment as it seemed more like a barrier.
Today I'm at a loss- it looks a little more angry than yesterday. Should I be applying a barrier (like the Burt's bees ointment) over top of the metanium? I ask because the metanium just seems to wipe off on to her nappy instantly despite me putting it on thinly as the packaging says- in turn it affects the absorbency of the nappy.
Maybe I'm over thinking things but just can't bear to see this scarlet little sore bum anymore, never mind listen to the screams following a poo or wee!
(Ps using cotton wool and water to clean and doing loads of nappy off time)

My dd had this about 8 weeks ago, to the point it was bleeding and broken skin.

At 4 weeks she shouldn't be able to move about too much so the best thing would be to let her have as much nappy free time as possible. Lots of towels under her and let her play as long as possible without a nappy.

Took about a week to have an effect but my dd was a lot older and able to move about so couldn't keepsake nappy off too long.

Ohh the other thing that worked wonders was cornflower tonhelp dry the skin out. I was a bit cautious as I don't buy into old wives tales/remedies as a rule but it worked wonders and healed the broken skin in 12 hours

My dd used to suffer really badly with thrush/nappy rash. She used to have nappy free time as often as possible, we used an anti-fungal with steroid whenever she had a huge flare up. Eventually we worked out that it was related to a particular brand of nappy. She is now 8 and still fairly sensitive with respect to products such as washing powders, soap and bubble baths.

My EBF DD has had nappy rash almost constantly since she was born. Initially it was a red, blistery one which was related to her poos, I cut out the main sources of dairy and the rash stopped. A few weeks later we got thrush. This rash looks like little red dots and big shiny red areas. The first rash responded well to metanium and nappy free time. Also as she's got older she poos less often which helped a lot. The thrush comes and goes. We've used Daktarin, Timodene and now Canestan HC. They all clear it up but it recurs even though we keep using the cream. Nappy rash is awful, so sorry you're battling it too.

Chage to Naty nappies and water wipes. Expensive but worth it. Naty nappies are one of the few properly breathable disposables and water wipes have nothing in them except water and fruit extract. Or cotton wool and water.

Nappy free time as much as possible.

Use antifungal twice a day and inbetween use thin metanium with burst bees over the top. Change nappy within minutes of a poo even if it means changing in the boot of the car (been grateful for a large boot many times!).

Avoid any products in the bath. Bath or dunk bum in water twice a day for proper wash and dry.

Don't stop the antifungal til 1 week after the rash has gone or it'll just come back.

Use calpol for the pain especially at night.

That combo hasn't failed me though 2dc with horrifically sensitive rash prone skin.

Hope she's better soon.
