Television.. how much?

Probably been asked before, but I would be interested to know on average how much telly you allow your little ones, particularly 3/4 yr olds to watch in a day?

I am ashamed to say over the last week or so the amount our tv has been on is more than ususal, though I am toilet training my boy, not that that should be an excuse

too much, we all 'hug' the tv

DD is 3 and a half and goes through phases. Some days she can watch 3 or 4 hours worth (often a fave dvd) and then she can go for days on end where the tv doesn't get switched on at all. For this reason i don't mind when she does have days of being addicted to it!

it's a difficult one isn't it?? ds is 3.5 and i have 7mdd so i do 'use' tv to occupy him whilst busy with her at times. i also use it as a reward and sometimes as a way of calming him down (when i know he's too tired, but he no longer has any nap time).
i try to make sure i also know what he's watching - we go for good educational cbeebies programmes or for a PG film.
for me these things are more important than the actual number of hours.
but to answer your question - it varies between none to up to 3 hours. on an average day i try to avoid more than 1 hour.

Too much.

2 children aged 2 and 4 respectively.

Think it's about 3 and a 1/2 hours per day during the holidays. Not entirely happy with this - but I use the time to cook, do laundry, clean, tidy and other domestic drudgery......there is no maternal down time during this period; you won't find me buffing my nails and I do use it as a virtual babysitter so that I can do very necessary things.

Console myself that my children get out most days, have a lot of exercise, stimulation, do a great deal of art and craft with me.....etc

And I figure, i don't beat them or maltreat them, they are well fed and cared for...so.....c'est la vie (but still, the guilt!!!)

tv does educate

I agree - I am astounded at the nuggets of knowledge that my dd comes out with having gleaned it from 'Come Outside' or whatever.

I am actually selective about her viewing ...
