Do you take your pushchair on the escalators??

As above!

I did it once on the escalators in our hotel on holiday, the wheel jammed at the top and I nearly went arse over tit over the pram.

My partner does it if we go shopping whilst I stand behind cringing.

Seen lots of people doing it, so was just wondering about the vast majority on here??

Am I the only un-coordinated dick head who can't be trusted on escalators?!

yes I do if I'm feeling impatient but only if my husband is there to help me.

I've done it quite a few times, but will go out of my way not to. I hold the buggy with one hand and the handrail with the other, so don't think I'm any more likely to fall down than when it's just me (have fallen down an escalator once in my life, never had anyone land on me from behind hard enough to knock me over, used the Tube for nearly 40 years).

Probably safer than carrying it down flights of stairs, which I do loads (Victoria Station to District line in particular). In shops at least there aren't crowds trying to push past you.

Oh I agree it is probably safer than carrying down flights of stairs. I feel nervous when doing that with a helpful stranger (though grateful)

I don't because my pram is quite heavy when ds is in it, especially if I clip the car seat on rather than use the pram.

I also have a bad back due to scoliosis and a serious whiplash injury 2 years ago so I worry I'm not strong enough to hold on.

Problem is - I'm terrified of lifts!!!

So me and ds rarely go to the shopping centre on our own unless the required shop is on the ground floor Smile

Only with the single buggy. Wouldn't do it with both kids in the Phil and teds. I barely control the bloody thing on a flat surface.

No, I think it's unsafe to take pushchairs on escalators.

I used to think that the inclined travelators would be safe enough until the time I was involved in a bit of a pile up on one in a local supermarket. No-one was hurt, but it was still alarming.

Having said that, I've never been in a position where I've had to go up / downstairs and there's no alternative to the escalator.
