Formula to cows milk

I know guidelines say that children can have cows milk from 12 months but has anyone actually stuck to that? My LG is 10 months and I'm considering switching to cows milk soon. Any advice?

vitamin drops are recommended for all children from 6 months to age 5, especially vitamin D as there have been an increasing amount of cases of rickets. It is hard to get sufficient vitamin D from diet alone and if they are not in the sun much it will not be produced that way either.

The higher incidence of MS is Scotland is linked to Vit D deficiency. At our latitude, it is incredibly hard to spend enough time outside with bare skin to absorb enough sunlight. We would need to return to an agricultural society before mechanisation.

Seems easier to give drops.

Children don't suddenly change between 10 and 12 months. It's a guideline after all. My dd decided she didn't like formula at that age.

extra vitamins are not recommended for babies on.follow-on formula.
because the formula contains extra anyway.

Follow on milk is not recommended for babies. It's a marketing ploy.

nickelbabe · 26/04/2014 21:40

well, formula.

the vitamin d bottle we've got says "this product should not be given to infants consuming 500ml or more of infant formula"

I couldn't remember the exact wording so just got dh to check ed

Jen, the fact that you started weaning at 4 months and your dd loves food, does not mean that "early weaning = good eaters" and "6 month weaning = fussy eaters". There are going to be so many differences between you and your friends, and between your baby and their babies. You can't possibly say that when you started weaning directly relates to how fussy they will be. You can't say what kind of impact it has.

For example, I started weaning at about 6 months and my ds loves food and eats pretty much everything. Does that prove you wrong? No, as it's just one anecdote against another.

daily

stargirl1701 · 26/04/2014 21:43

That's right nickel. But, if the formula drops below 500ml you need vitamins. You also need them when you switch to cows' milk.

nickelbabe · 26/04/2014 22:07

yes, you do indeed need them when switching to cow's milk
