Hi just wondering what to get my daughter for her entry into the teenage years.

She already has loads of tech stuff I pad , smartphone etc etc so I was thinking about jewellery ? But I just don't know if that's right or not.

Would really welcome a mums point of view

I am thinking of spending 150 pounds ish so it does not have to be just a present ....could be meal out etc

I don't see her that often so I so want to get it right

Thanks for reading

What sort of music does she like? I bought DD1 some posters and things to do with her favourite bands and singers. For £150 you could even get concert tickets for her and a friend or something like that.

Although, if she doesn't spend time with you much, could you do a shopping trip maybe? If you've got a big shopping centre like Westfield or something close-ish by, then you could give her some spending money and a meal, nice day out? That depends on your DD, I know one of my DDs would love to do that, the other wouldn't.

My DD is 13 soon and wants a DS3. Does she know what she wants, at this age I think they should choose themselves.

You should get her a bible it will be your child's lifesaver, all Christians know all electronics are evil without Jesus or Gods Holy Word.

Sassy do you mean a 3DS? Surely 13 is a little too young to be wanting a car, or am I horribly out of date? Smile

Tenrec · 25/04/2014 15:31

If my DC got a Bible for their present, they'd hit the roof Grin

ChristianMother is that a joke post?

...and so on. They're electronic you know.

ChristianMother: The Vatican has a Twitter Account...and St Paul's cathedral, but maybe @Evangelists is more your thing?

NormalBloke - would she like to go shopping with and choose her present together? And have lunch in the sort of place 13 year olds like - her choice?

I would do that if you are thinking of jewellry or cloths or a bag or suchlike. Especially as what one 13 year old wants will not be the same as another in terms of taste or brands.

CQ · 25/04/2014 16:39

My DD just turned 13 and the thing she wanted most was a pair of real Ugg boots not the cheap equivalents I tried to fob her off with. That'll take care of most of your 150 quid I'd say.

alwaysrushing · 25/04/2014 23:31

Definitely let her choose- that's a lot of money- she will be really excited I'm sure. Or if 150 is the total, make it 120 present and a lovely lunch somewhere of her choosing. 13 year old girls have strong opinions but you could throw in some ideas-ie bag, jewellery( bangles, pendants) ugg boots, headphones, clothes ,-for her to have a lovely think about it in advance. I'm excited for her!!

Good hair straighteners (ghd), earrings, roller blades... Girls are waaay easier to buy for than boys!!

AndiPandi · 25/04/2014 23:38

Yep a shopping trip is def the answer! My 13 yr old just wanted clothes, but it's holister, jack wills, superdry etc so £150 doesn't go far but she'll be delighted. Have lunch at Nandos or similar and you should have a really nice day together & she'll be delighted - if she's like my DD!

alwaysrushing · 25/04/2014 23:38

And christianmother....really???? Surely a prank post??

sassysally · 27/04/2014 12:16

My DD is 13 soon and wants a DS3
Doh! I meant a 3DS -she definitely doesn't want another brother!!!!

NormalBloke · 27/04/2014 22:14

Hey thanks a million for all your replies.......tips hat

You have convinced me to do the shopping trip with lunch etc ......going to ask her tomorrow.

Have fun!

Nocomet · 27/04/2014 23:30

I let DD loose on the Superdry website (well to the value of a hoddie and a Tshirt)

She got a Nexus for Christmas so her birthday budget wasn't ridiculously large.

I took them to the HP studio for DD1's 16th and they booth really enjoyed that.

What DD2 would like most is to see Matilda, but that's £200 for tickets plus a night (or two) in London, plus travel, which is just silly. (We can do HO in the day, but Central London and have time to shop, eat and enjoy it is a real push).

Nocomet · 27/04/2014 23:31

I should add that while £££, the hoddie is really warm and absolutely perfect for a coat refusenick
