Saw this in the Nottingham Post today, can't believe the store would go to these lengths....

"One group in London had a manager ask them to cover up more as they were leaving"

He would have been arrested for that if that had happened in Scotland.

Yep the nottingham one was on tuesday, sports direct and their staff refused to comment when asked questions

It is against the law in the whole of the UK. The Equality Act 2010 says "Service providers must not discriminate, harass or victimise a woman because she is breastfeeding."

In Scotland it is illegal for any member of the public to do that but in England it is only illegal for a service provider to do it. The Equality Act doesn't protect breastfeeding mothers from other members of the public.

nappyaddict, but the diiference in Scotland is that preventing breastfeeding is covered by criminal law, in England it is only civil law.

I think what this all shows is that we need a criminal law in England as well, as the civil law is toothless and does not even apt to the whole population.

Could this Mum take Sports Direct to court over this? Would Sports Direct be charged with anything?

The 1975 Sexual Discrimination Act actually covered a woman breastfeeding a child, of any age and meant that she could not be discriminated against for breastfeeding in public places. We don't seem to have come very far in nearly 30 years do we?
