How many nappies you need depends on the age of the baby (newborns need changing more often), how often you want to put a wash on, and how long the nappies take to dry (microfibre take a few hours, bamboo can take a day or two).
We put DD in reusables after about a month - I had 10 Little Lambs microfibre and 10 Bumgenius freetime. I have never had to wash more frequently than every other day. DD is now 8 months, and I only wash them every 2 or 3 days, so 20 nappies is plenty for me.
I think 30 would be more than enough, although do bear the drying time in mind, especially if they are bamboo.
Hope that helps.

I always found terry squares with pins fine, my friend used the popper ones and found the poppers started to come away after several washes, but that was a good few years ago - they are probably more reliable now.

By the way, are you my Australian doppelgänger? Grin

No im not Australian haha my name comes from a cute koala i saw in a zoo once called rusty :) what can you use to stop the nappies from smelling too as they are microfiber you can use fabric softener and stuff on them could i use white vinegar and lemon ?? i intended on soaking them in a pail and washing once a day what ever is in the pail

I just dry pail all our nappies in a lidded bucket, then wash every couple of days - no smells as long as you keep the lid on. We have a net bag to line the bucket which makes it easier to throw everything in the washing machine. I never use fabric softener - I think it might affect absorbency. I use non-bio liquid in the washing machine, but about a quarter of the recommended amount - otherwise you get detergent buildup and the nappies leak. We use paper liners for ease, and flush them down the loo. Any stains on the nappies come out after hanging them in the sunshine for a bit.
