Toddler says no, no, no, no... You get the idea

My 35 month old has begun to say 'no' at pretty much every point, all day, every day. Sometimes he can be turned around by explanations of a situation, or distraction, or bribery. More often he will have a tantrum which is powerful but short lived - until the next question, request, direct order, sobbing entreaty comes along. His language is delayed, probably by 6 months or more & I suspect frustration is the root of the problem, but an advice on tactics or coping mechanisms happily received.

I find giving a simple choice to my 3 yr old works quite well. Just make sure both outcomes are what you want. For example: Me: it's bedtime. DD: no Me: do you want to walk or shall I carry you. DD: walk.
Works in most situations and means they feel they have some control in the situation.

I fondly remember when I was struggling to find out whether this was a no-no or a yes-no.... As banana suggests, choice sometimes works. A crystal ball is also very helpful Grin
