SAHM's - Do you plan your day?

....or does it just happen? I have a 3 year old and a 1 year old and our days seem to just evolve. Is there a better way? Do you have a system, or a routine every day?

Medulla · 22/08/2006 18:17

it's eaasier for me as i only have one (ds, 15mo) but yes, i try to have something planned for each 'half' of day, even if it's just going for a walk into the village, or popping to the shops. i try to find something to do in the afternoon that lets him zoom around a bit - go to a friend's house to play with other toys, or like today, take him the the childrens play bit in kew gardens.

tbh though it's probably more for my benefit than his - i get cabin fever if i stay in the house for more than a couple of hours at a time

Ds is 2.10. Make sure we get out every day. At the moment he goes to creche first thing (9:30)Mon-Fri whilst I go the gym. In Sep he'll go back to pre-school (9:30-12:00) for 3 days a week and on the other 2 he'll go to creche while I gym it. After creche we'll generally we'll then go to the playground opposite the gym and then we'll play it by ear. At the w/end we'll take ds to the playground and then for a long walk somwhere and then we'll play it by ear.
Generally we'll come home for lunch and then I go to bed while ds amuses himself. Then we'll have a cuddle and play for a couple of hours before tea/bathtime/bedtime kicks off.
So mixture of both really - but ds will demand creche etc at around 10 if we have to stay in in the morning for a delivery or whatever.

ledodgyrobespierre · 22/08/2006 18:29

No plans here either usually just play it by ear.

yomellamoHelly...You certainly like the gym I bet you're really fit

canadianmum · 22/08/2006 18:32

My boys are 3.5. I don't plan for all day every day but usually have 4 or 5 half days planned each week (playdate at mine, playdate at someone else's house, haircut for them, gym class, football class, visit from a relative, outing to a museum etc...). I love the days where I have both halves of the day planned!

In september they will go to nursery 5 mornings a week and I will only need to plan 5 afternoons - easy peasy!!

adath · 23/08/2006 11:09

I rarely plan, I usually have maybe loose plans like will pop up one day this week or somwthing but rarley anything else, oh apart from the one day a wek we go to toddler group.
I kind of would like to plan a bit now as DD is going to nursery in January just get her used to a bit os routine in her day because it is never something we have had.

USAUKMum · 23/08/2006 13:29

During the school year we have a planned day, we need to be out the door for school by 8:35 (walk with a number of prearranged stops to pick up friends), lunch at noonish, nap 1:15 - 3:00, Pick up DD at 3:20. Dinner at 6:30. Then on Tues 5:15pm swimming for DD, Wed 9:30am Tumble Tots for DS, Fri 10am swimming for DS, 5:15pm ballet for DD. On Thurs we play with friends whom have known DD since birth (5 yrs). and usually play with friends another day.

During the summer hols, we've been more planned than before as DD best friend's mums are. So we had to schedule in dates to see them in July for the hols. But it has turned out good, as we have had a fun time with soem days out, seeing friends, and days at home.

cerys · 23/08/2006 13:41

I don't plan, usually, but I always try to get out somewhere in the mornings. This started because DD2 was in nursery until 11.45am, but she's going to Reception in 2 weeks and therefore full days like DD1. DS sleeps after lunch so mornings suit us better for activities. Once school starts I aim to do a couple of playgroups with him on say 2 mornings and see what happens on the other days.

Pinklaura80 · 25/08/2006 10:54

The only thing I plan for every day is time spent outdoors for some fresh air, everything else is just as and when

Auntymandy · 25/08/2006 10:56

plan a day ha!!!
I plan to get the ones at school there on time and to pick them up on time. I plan to have tea on the table on time. Other than that I dont plan anything, unless I have made plans!!!

Mum2FunkyDude · 25/08/2006 11:01

My son (9months)'s routine is 2 naps, 3 meals, bath time, bed 'till morning. We get out about twice a week to go to the shops, the rest of the time he explores the house and learns to creep, cruise and fall over. And somewhere in-between I take a bath and has breakfast. On weekends, DH and FunkyDude are inseparable so I get some time off.

ComeOVeneer · 25/08/2006 11:05

Seriously under planned here, we just go with the flow. Will all have to change in a few weeks when dd starts school.

happypiglet · 25/08/2006 18:12

We have things in the week to 'aim' for. Like a toddler group one day, coffee morning another etc. But the rest of the time I go with the flow and just potter with my two (DS1 is 2.7 and DS2 is 1).
I had to have something to do every half day with DS1 or feel like I was going mad but shortly after DS2 was born he was very ill and we were confined to the house/ no other children to visit etc for three months. It taught me how to chill out with them and fill the day with mundane things.
Then we were let out again and some how we never got back into the mad rounds of activities that we used to do!That having been said on the days we do nothing by the time DH gets home at around 8pm I am dying some days to talk to an adult!!

Alibaldi · 25/08/2006 18:15

During vacation nope - just have certain things we want to do during the week, but daily now we like the proverbial go with the flow. During school time - both ds's are at pre-school slighty more planning required to get two fed,on the toilet and in the car for 12.30

domestickler · 25/08/2006 18:16

yoyellymelly - did I read right that you go to bed in the afternoon whilst DS plays? I WANT YOUR ROUTINE!!!

MrsSpoon · 25/08/2006 18:19

Sort of half routine (enforced by School and fitness class timetables) and the rest very much as it comes. I don't really like routine and tend to rebel against it.

pudding77 · 30/08/2006 19:15

I have a 7 month old and he has his meals at set times and we aim to go places but other than that I don't worry too much about it.
