DD moving into big girls bed, how do I get her to stay in it ?

Last night was DD's first night in her big girls bed and to be honest wasn't as bad as I expected initially.
She went to bed at 7.30 her usual bedtime, she was tucked in with a drink, her dummy and her favourite teddy. As soon as i left the room I could hear her little feet running across the room, I decided not to make a big deal of her staying in the bed as the stair gate was on the door, worked on the basis she could play until she was tired then she would get into bed, which amazingly worked - come 8.20 she was fast asleep in her bed.
HOWEVER
Come 11p.m she had an absolutely fit, screaming her little head off. She didn't fall out of the bed as she has wooden floor and I would've heard her if she did, I was in our bedroom, next door. DH went in there, put her back into bed stroked her hair until she was settled and then got back into bed, 2 minutes later she was doing it again but screaming like I've never heard her scream before. DH even got into bed with her but she wasn't having any of it, she got out of the bed, ran out of her room into our room and dived in our bed.
I have put a bed guard on the bed so she feels safer, there is plenty of room for her and she goes to sleep absolutely fine but there is something that she doesn't like about going back to sleep in it during the night. In her cot she would not wake in the night once, the reason we ahve moved her is because of room in the cot etc. She is 2.1.

Anyone got any suggestions on how to get her to stay in the bed ?

Maybe she feels scared as some children get out of bed and then are suddenley faced with the dark.
Does she have a really faint night light?
Cant think of anything else it could be really.
Sorry cant help too much.Hope it works out.

We are approaching bedtime now - anymore idea's ?

I will try the nightlight but I don't understand why that would be the case considering she never woke up crying when she was in her cot and it was just as dark then

TBH I would keep her in the cot until her feet are hanging over the sides, she who cannot be named recommends keeping them in the cot until at least three and I have to say I agree on that point.

Can you tell I am having a proud mummy moment ?

She slept all night without getting out once and without even waking and she kept her nappy on all night too so thanks to whoever recommended the popper vests (other thread), they worked a treat.

DD was so pleased with herself this morning when she realised she was still in her bed, she kept saying "mummy I been in my big girls bed, I been sweeping"

AAAaaaawwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwwww
