My DD, 2, is driving me MAD, constantly switching all the lightswitches on and off - they literally make a frazzling noise at times.. What can I do? I´ve tried "NO!" and nothing else, told her it´s naughty, slapped her hand (sorry : (.. everything I think of.. She does it all the time, though more when in a bad mood! PLEASE HELP! This situation is really getting to me!

how is she reaching them?

Unemployable · 22/08/2006 08:27

She´tall, can switch them both on and off.. there are also at least 2 or 3 switches in every room so wheever she turns there are more..

all you can do is to teach her not to, it will take weeks or months good luck

but for what it's worth I don't think a 2 year old coulod be tall enough unles you have weird low down switches

Og God, no other hints? There will be an electrical fire before she has finished.. Maybe I can just disenable some lights? Maybe then she´ll get bored?

Take out the lightbulbs- we've done that in ds1's room. You can also get socket covers (from Fledglings) that go over the lightswitch cover, - you need to tape up the hole in the bottom though. In 2 years time I may have a lightswitch cover in production! (so I'm kind of pleased to hear you need one )

Thanks, yes I think I´m heading toward taking out the light bulbs.. not sure how the covers will work..

Search for fledglings, I think they have a pic on their website. The covers just fix over the lightswitch. As they're socket covers they have a hole in the bottom for flex to go through- you could turn them upside down (we can't as ds1 is 7 so can reach through), or tape them up. Adults can open them easily. A 2 year old couldn't.

Rather than taking out the lighbulbs you could take out the fuses of the lighting circuits at the fusebox during the day while she's up, then replace them once she's in bed.
Easier (and safer) than takiing bulbs in and out and means you and dh can still use the lights at night.
And of course if you have a modern fusebox with tripswitches it'd be even easier.

Thank you ladies!!! I have some hope! Will discuss what is best with DH tonight.. the end is nigh!
