Highchair escape artist

My DD seems to get out of anything or push it over - we are on highchair number four. I'm at my wits end - she is 18 months I'm contemplating ditching them completely and getting a small table. Can anyone recommend a highchair that is she can't escape from or tip over. Stokke was hopeless. Also do you think the small table would work.

You just clip a walking rein harness onto the D rings in the chair or use the little mounting straps that come with the reins.

DD1 climbed out of high chairs and shopping trolleys if she wasn't clipped in firmly.

Fortunately we had a mountain buggy with a laid back canvas hammock seat. Any more ridgid buggy she climbed out of too.

My dd can escape from the harness at 7 months!

I think the table is a great idea!

Good luck

I'm not at this stage with my dd yet but I remember my Aunty put the straps on very thing back to front! That helped her! Or the Houdini straps I've heard mentioned (I think they're called this) the extra strap you put on their chest?!

DS, who can get out of everything and/or tip it over, is flummoxed by his Antilop. He can bounce across the floor - if we let him! - because we have tiled floors, but that's all.
Cheap as buggery, too Grin

Oh, also be sure not to let dc push back on the table with their feet. Naughty mice!

DeathMetalMum · 11/04/2014 09:22

Maybe try a booster seat (with or without the tray). We only used a highchair for dd1 for a few times but ditched it pretty quickly. Now both dd's have a booster seat each dd2 who is 13 months still has the tray on hers but can be right up at the table so has always been happy in it.

mumofboyo · 11/04/2014 11:44

My ds frightened the life out of me at around that age by climbing out of the high chair straps. I was feeding dd, who was only a few weeks old at the time, so couldn't get to him.

From then on we got rid of it and bought some booster seats for the table chairs. Neither child - now 3 yrs and 18 months - has even tried to escape from them.

BlueChampagne · 11/04/2014 12:06

Ours both became high-chair refusniks at about 18 months so they just knelt up to table on a normal dining chair.

TeWiSavesTheDay · 11/04/2014 12:14

I found the best strap to be one that went across the waist then between the legs, the addition of shoulder straps seems to make it easier to find enough slack to escape...

MrsMarigold · 11/04/2014 18:32

Thanks for the responses - we have a mountain buggy and the little tearaway climbed out in a shop.

She is currently on a booster seat at the table but frequently climbs up onto the table. We've tried the five point harness that comes with reins too with some success but then she just gets herself into awkward positions.

I'll try the table and pop them outside when the weather gets hotter.

Another vote for ikea antilop. Both dc we're escape artists in other high chairs.

Goldmandra · 11/04/2014 19:06

I've childminded a few escape artists. All of them have been stumped by my 17 yo Mothercare highchair which has an adjustable lap belt, a strap between their legs and rings for a walking harness. All three used together have proved inescapable so far Grin

Theyaremysunshine · 11/04/2014 20:03

Have you tried this style?. It does have a waist strap, though you can't see it on the photos. Might make her feel a bit closer to the action so less inclined to climb?

Dd sits calmly in it despite bouncing her other booster-on-chair all over the kitchen.
