baby eczema on hands

Hi everyone just wanted some advice, my dd (9 months) has baby eczema on her cheeks and hands, I have been given moisturizer from the doctor which I put in her face but am reluctant to put it on her hands as she often puts her hands in her mouth (she sort of sucks her thumbs and tbh I think this is why her hands get so irritated) do any of you have young babies with eczema on their hands? If so what do you put on it? I just worry if I put the cream on her hands she's just going to suck/lick it off which surely won't be good for her but I don't want to leave her hands as they get so dry that they can look sore.
Any advice please?
Thanks Xx

Would she keep cotton mittens on night? If you were able to keep them on and put a thick layer of cream on over night with gloves on top it may help a lot and then you may not need as much cream during the day? I can understand you not wanting her to 'eat' the cream! Is it the back of her hands or fingers/creases on hands that are sore? My DS is 5 but has terribly dry skin/eczema on his hands (but not his fingers) and if we can't control it with steroid cream I'm going to look for some cotton gloves for him.

She tends to pull off scratch mitts and if she does keep them on she sucks her thumbs through the mitt and they are soaking wet by morning! It's mainly her thumbs and forefingers and her hand between them if you know what I mean, the most sore part is the creases on her thumbs. I may just have to go back to the doctor and see what he recommends. Thanks for the advice Smile Xx

I asked a GP about this issue when DD was small and they assured me that emollients like Epaderm / Zeroderm are safe for babies to eat in small quantities. !! So ask your GP about those.

If the eczema is really bad, I would just tape the mitts on a night (round the mitts over the wrists, iyswim, so no tape over / on her skin). The other thing to consider is sleepsuits with roll over cuffs on the arms. Next do them. But I imagine an enterprising baby could get a hand out pretty quickly.

No moisturisers worked for my Dd but using SLS free products did - in our case Burt's Bees stuff. Now moved onto a cheaper one sold at asda though.

My LO is the same, I put his steroid cream on then put his baby socks on his hands , they stay on much better than scratch mits as they go up to his elbows and he cant work them off x hope this helps
