Dropping milk feeds?

Do babies drop milk feeds naturally or should I be looking to wean DS off it? if so, how do you do that and when?

DS is 9mo, on 3 bottles a day (first thing in the morning, mid afternoon, right before bed) totalling around 18-20oz a day. He's not shy about his solids either!

I found that DS droppped his bottles of his own accord....he was always very clear when he no longer wanted a particular feed (consistently smacked the bottle away, cried, backbent like a scorpion to get down off my lap etc etc).

Maybe you could re-consider if he gets to over 12mo and is still packing away the milk, but afaik at the moment it's good that he's drinking so much: formula is full of fat which he needs, and vitamins too. So let him get on with it!

DD dropped them all slowly between 6-12 months until we were left with just the bedtime bottle. She dropped that at 16 months.

My DS is 10mo, and has two 8oz bottles a day, one on waking and one before bed. In between he has three meals, water and occasional watered down fruit juice. He started leaving half a bottle here and there during the day, and eventually just dropping them. It happened really suddenly, though, so be warned! I was quite alarmed because he was a mammoth feeder of both milk and solids, then the following week didn't want the milk any more!

My DS is 13mo and still has 3 bottles a day. We've offered milk in a cup - no interest. Total milk-in-a-bottle monster. He eats loads also, so I'll wait until he no longer wants it.

Thanks everyone. I thought he was going off having so much a couple of weeks ago but back to having and wanting more! Will continue as we are then and see what happens Smile
