When will my DD's hair grow?

She is 2.4 and it is very whispy and not at her neck yet. It is fine and blonde. She keeps asking for her hair to be put up / long hair.

Baldies run in our family, but all started to grow and get proper hair between about 2.5 and 3. My niece now has lovely ponytails and bunches at 3.3.

My dd is 2.4 and never yet needed a haircut! However her hair has been filling out and getting thicker, so guess it'll grow more soon! Some people say that a small trim encourages growth?

3.6 and never had a hair cut here! DD has long hair at the back but still in patches very short. But it has grown a lot recently and I'm seeing new short hairs. It's very curly too. I was the same as a child so I think it's genetic. My hair is only just growing back after 2nd pregnancy and that baby is nearly 18 months. I'm not sure what can be done to alter hair growth patterns. My DD also wants long princess hair. Thank god for Snow White I say. She has a bob.

Yes, I bought her a Tangled doll back from a work trip. Bad idea. She wants that hair.

Not much consolation but ds2 didn't have his first hair trim until he was 5.

He's now just six and since that time he has had the fringe bit trimmed once about 6 months ago and last week I trimmed the whole lot - there was one patch that I took barely 2 cm off, most of it was less than a cm. There are still some bits that haven't grown long enough to be cut.

It's very fine, still looks like a toddler's hair in so far as you can still sort of see his scalp through in places. And it's not long - longest bits are maybe 4cm. It's just in a little boy slightly curly 'style' - whereas his brother needs his hair cut very couple of months and has a short back and sides, by the time he goes to get it done again it's usually grown an inch or two (and I keep fringe trimmed in the mean time).

I've tried to find out from the doctor if it is a sign of something - he's also very short (1st percentile). So I wondered if it was linked to that or was maybe a food deficiency of some sort etc but so far the gp doesn't think so.

But I do look at him next to some of the girls in his class who have long thick hair and am just amazed at the difference - and I can't help but think I wonder what it is that means your hair has grown so much more than ds2 could dream of - if he was a girl his hair would still be in pretty much the same style it is now as just the really fine baby fluff has gone (whereas if ds1 was a girl and had let his hair grow then he'd easily have had long thick hair by this age if he had wanted it).

Dd1 was about 5 before she had real coverage, DD2 was like Rapunzel from 2.
Don't think there's much you can do but wait. Keep it trimmed and tidy always looks thicker.

zipzap, DD is on the 2nd percentile for height. People think she is a year younger from apperance.

Dd was bald as a coot until 3. At 5 she has probably the thickest hair in her class.

One of my sons is a "baldy"

He had next to no hair til he was two and even now at nearly 5 it grows very very slowly

Other two dc have a thick head of hair! Little one is only a year old and I'm sure she has more hair now than he has ever had in his life! Lucky it was one of my boys and not my dd who got the baldy locks!

mrspatpat · 06/04/2014 13:11

I was a baldy. My hair was long enough for a small ponytail at about 6 years old. Dd is 11 months and her hair is very whispy but she is getting little curls by the ears so I hope that means that it is growing.

Zippzapp and OP, my DD is a baldie and is very small for her age. But my ds2 was also a baldie and is above average height and weight. My DS1 had tons of hair as a baby/toddler and is of slight build. No pattern available in my family's case Grin
