Currently I bath my 4 month old in mornings every other day and on the days I don't I top and tail. What do you do?

I agree - I use reusable wipes with water morning and night, baby wipes just don't get rid of that horrible poo smell. And I would never wash myself with wipes before leaving the house in a morning, so why would I use them for my DCs

monkeynuts123 · 21/03/2014 21:07

Do you wipe your own arse with only wet wipes for days on end or do you have a bath or shower? There's your answer.

Martorana · 21/03/2014 22:02

No-but I didn't leave my babies unbathed for "days on end" either. Hmm

I just did what I continue to do now they are much older. Bath every night and wash every morning. Now they're teenagers, it's shower every morning. It's a good routine and stops the house smelling so bad when they get hormones. Wink

Martorana · 21/03/2014 22:12

Wow - does everyone in your house bath every night and shower every morning? We just shower every morning and bath in the evening sometimes if there is time or a particular need. There wouldn't be either time or hot water for everyone to do both every day!

BeQuicksieorBeDead · 21/03/2014 22:26

My four month old has three or four baths a week, we top and tail with water wipes. His skin seems clear and healthy and he hasn't had nappy rash so far so I am happy. A bath every night would mean my spine becoming deformed through use of ridiculous baby bath. I have to hunch over the bloody thing.

TheZeeTeam · 21/03/2014 22:39

No, the teenagers, DH and I shower every morning. The younger ones still just wash. We have plenty of water (cos we've got plenty of bathrooms!) and everyone getting up is staggered anyway. The kids all bathe every night because they like it. It relaxes them and they do a lot of sport.

Martorana · 21/03/2014 23:15

Ah. We only have one bathroom. I bet you didn't know such poverty existed!Grin

Bath my 8mo every other night unless BLW has gone very messily. But that and his bum mean regular wiping up throughout the day.

We have eczema issues too so don't use any products unless he's got something very gluey in his hair.

Thanks theyaremysunshine i will be checking those out! Poor sensitive sausages

fryingpantoface · 22/03/2014 22:19

Ds1 (2.5) gets a bath or shower every other day, unless he's particularly dirty.

ds2 (10wks) gets a bath once or twice a week, that's it. He doesn't get dirty (poomageddons notwithstanding) so i don't see the need to bathe him a lot.

Blondlittlelady · 22/03/2014 22:54

Dd is 6 weeks old. I top & tail her every day morning & evening unless she has a bath...currently 2 or 3 times a week.

Her neck gets really sore if i don't wash it daily.

I have never used a babywipe on any of my dc faces when they were little.

DS has a bath at night then comes in the shower with me in the morning so he can't wreck the place I don't wash him every night and morning though only when he's dirty and gets hair washed once a week unless it's got food or mud in it. He has sensitive skin so I avoid using anything but water if I can now he's toilet trained he's not got pee and poo smells water is fine.

poocatcherchampion · 23/03/2014 18:39

bath or top and tail every night. never used a baby wipe - they are repugnant.

Martorana · 23/03/2014 19:29

Baby wipes repugnant? Only on Mumsnet........!

mumofboyo · 23/03/2014 19:42

I'maLooney we do similar to you: bath every other night (with emolient for their eczema) and a quick wipe of hands/face/bum/feet with a baby wipe (not the same one, obvs Wink ) on the nights in between. My dc are 18 months and 3 in a fortnight.

minipie · 23/03/2014 19:44

I've never top and tailed. Bath every evening (more because dd loved bathtime than because she needed it) then water wipes for face after milk and bum after nappy change.

Still use water wipes for her face at 16 mo as she gets dry skin otherwise (her bottom has graduated to something a lot cheaper!)

fluffandnonsense · 24/03/2014 04:58

Bath every night as it helps to calm her down and wipe with a baby wipe in the morning if she needs it. She's only 10 weeks old so doesn't exactly get dirty! :)

poocatcherchampion · 24/03/2014 09:40

oh but they are! slimy and stinky. also those face wipe things that burn your skin. and they are so hard to dispose of, and expensive.

I'm toying with being a complete loon and only taking washables on holiday even though I have made my peace with disposable nappies occasionally.
