Hi all. I'm looking into purchasing a sling for my 9 week old ds and just after some advice/opinions/tips etc.

Do you use a sling? Do you bf in one? What's the best one for this purpose?

I've got my heart set on getting the bb ring sling, I've seen on the nct website; does anyone have this? Is it any good? What I love about it is I've seen a youtube tutorial on how to wear it and it's the easiest I've ever come across!

Thanks

Oh thanks for that site Bertie, such beautiful ones!

I've decided against wraps defiantly because they just look like to much hassle putting on. I think I might just go ahead an order my ring sling :) and test it out that way.

I'm definitely addicted already I've spent the ENTIRE day googling the darn things! I'm starving....

Thanks for all that purple, I'm most likely going to get a few now!!!

Wraps scare me... I want something I can set up and use in 30 secs and wraps just don't seem like they'd cooperate with me that fast...

Mine does, until I got the hang of flicking the panel on the r+r up over his back I was a lot more confident tying him onto me! I think because with a back carry in a wrap you can wrap the fabric round them and use that to keep them still while you get them up and sort the ends out. But there are many many carries and many many types of carrier; find the one that suits you

I can't manage front carries any more, ds is too heavy. But I have at least 2 friends who have never back carried their same-aged toddlers. Slings and roundabouts Wink

Thanks to the ladies tht pointed me in the direction of sling meet website, as now I've found 2 centres nearish to me! Unfortunately I've missed the march meet up dates so have to wait until beginning of next month.

Renting a sling for 2 weeks for £5-6 sounds so good!

In related news, I've ordered the ring sling from nct CANNOT wait for it to arrive!!

I loved my stretchy when they are small, and i could feed in it, love my ergo now (dd 8 months) and have a 'home made' fabric wrap for summer. All together costless tthan £100. I don't own a pram.
There are lots of good Facebook groups for getting proper sling advice and broken in pre loved slings.
Don't hold off, get one and try it, you can always sell it on. It can be very addictive though! !

A website called it's a sling thing was recommended to me by the helpful ladies of mumsnet. Allows you to rent all types for a few weeks and its all mail order which is bloomin' useful!

Moonbeam7 · 18/03/2014 10:49

Aw miaow that's such a lovely thought-thank you. I had spd in both my pregnancies too but not to the extent I had to use crutches or anything. I'm all better now but using a sling isn't likely to make things bad/worse if I get pregnant again is it?

Thanks debs ill check that out!

I've been looking at what accessories are available for slings/ring slings but not finding much online. I want to accessorise my one when it gets here to make it really unique- any ideas?!

I did come across a little purse bag that you can attach on the rings, anyone have any idea if their any use or not?

I'm not sure how I feel about my purse/phone etc being on such 'display'...

You can get wrap bags and some are just fabulous. You need a bag with a long strap to go round you both, i have collected a few pretty badges for the ergo over the last few months. You can also get really useful sucky pads for the straps custom made. :)
Have you looked at legacy wraps? You could see which one is your babies and get it in a bag or purse.

Moonbeam I went to my local sling meet and I really got on with a ringsling.

I just bought a diamond weave Girasol ring sling and I love it so much. My LO is really clingy and I can finally get things done around the house!

He BFs lovely in it and even DP wears it.

I've heard good things about Lenny Lamb slings as well, they are available cheaper I think.

moonbeam I'm travelling the next few days and can't link on phone. Most bits are made by wahm. If you ask on any of the Facebook sling groups they will come flocking with their wears
:)

Moonbeam7 · 18/03/2014 14:33

Thanks Rosie. I don't have Facebook but I might sign up just for this!!

You can get some lovely baby wearing bags. Smile

I see you've bought a ring sling, you can feed in it, although i never mastered it!

I found a ring sling no good for wearing on a long walk. I bought a babhawk mei tai, it has a panel so not as scary as a wrap. Now we use a toddler size Babies in Space that i love.

enjoy carrying your little one.

Moonbeam7 · 18/03/2014 20:32

Thanks runningKatie, I can't wait till it gets here, why is it taking so long?!!

I've already planned my next purchase lol, definitely some sort of mai tai.

Then a woven wrap of some sort...

OP posts:
rosiedays · 18/03/2014 22:15

Lol. Your hooked. Welcome to the world of baby wearing. :)
It's took me till 6 months to be confident with a woven!

I've only used a RS (ring sling) once and fed in it no problem. My friend loves her one.
My next is a mei tai just because they are so lovely. .

Oh you'll also need LOTs of new clothes to go under over and round your sling :)

Moonbeam7 · 18/03/2014 22:42

Waaay ahead of you Rosie, I need a matching thin jacket to go with it...I've been searching already haha.

Moonbeam7 · 18/03/2014 23:23

I'm being really stupid.. I don't want to rent any, because, well, I want to keep it...

OP posts:
Moonbeam7 · 18/03/2014 23:27

eBay have some pretty palm an pond ring slings for lit half the price I'm seeing them everywhere else.

I'm in two minds about this; are they a really good bargain or just cheaper because the product is cheaper? Eg less quality materials, maybe less durable?

What does everyone think?

My mum and dad got me this one www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/9049976.htm and it's been wonderful! I live up 3 flights of stairs so I much prefer this to the pram.

I realise it's quite sporty and masculine looking but I'm not fashion conscious and it means DH likes using it too. Grin It opens in lots of different ways so you can feed your DC whilst wearing it but the main thing is that it's extremely supportive on your back!
