Hiya,
My ds (2.6) is really good for weeing in his potty, he hasnt wee'd anywhere else apart from the potty.
However, he seems to be holding his poohs in. He seems to be in pain with it, and not wanting to pooh anywhere apart from the nappy.
He finally poohed (on the floor) which I was not cross about or anything like that, but he cried his eyes out.
Does this show hes not ready for potty training, or should I carry on as normal, as hes weeing really well.

Thanks

My dd2 did the same thing. We just kept going with it and took her to the potty whenever she started shouting for her nappy.

I think, fro my experience, you should keep going.

Not from experience (dd loves pooing in potty, but doesn't yet know when she needs to...sigh..) but I've heard from other Mums that putting a nappy in the potty can be a helpful transitional step, if a child is anxious about pooing anywhere other than nappy. Maybe worth a try? Good luck, sounds like he's doing brilliantly with the wees!

My son wa just the same - wees all day on big toilet but just would not poo! At 2 years 10 months he would actually ask for a nappy so he could do one. After a few episodes of constipation whilst he held out til bedtime I let him have them. After he did the business, i would clean him up and remove the nappy. The breakthrough came when he was on loo having a wee and said he needed to get a nappy. I basically held him on the toilet (i know it sounds cruel) and reassured him. He let it go cos he couldn't hold it and we just HEAPED on the praise. After that he went every time. He is now 3 yrs 2 mths and we have had lots of accidents with no.1s but none with no 2s!

My ds2 is another one who seems to have a phobia of going to poo. Its early days for us as we only started potty trining last Thursday but it is horrible seeing him get upset everytime he goes. he has no problems with wee, in fact he hasnt had any accidents at all since we started this and he will ask for the potty or toilet when he needs a poo, but then he seems to panic. I know hes not constipated or in pain (i could umderstand if he was). Im hoping that he will get used to it eventually but it is very upsetting as nothing i say or do seems to convince him that having a poo withut a nappy on is ok. After every poo he gets lotsof praise and encouragement but that doesnt seem to help either. Im glad im not alone in this and im sure all our children will get over this phase one day, hopefully sooner than later!!

My ds took a couple of months to poo in the loo after we started training. His nursery told me it was quite common for boys especially to take longer to master pooing in the loo than weeing. He never asked for a nappy but just did it in his pants. One day I took him to the loo after a meal and I read to him for a while and one just came out. After that he just carried on going to the loo for his poos and in fact he's been much better with poos than with wees. My friend's ds used to ask for a nappy for ages - he was finally persuaded to poo in loo at about 4.5 ! (hope it doesn't take that long for you).
