Encouragment for sitting on the loo for a poo

My 3.5 year old has been out of nappies for 4 months and is fantastic at going for a wee on the loo without any problems. However, poos are a completely different story. Whenever he wants to do a poo he will not go to the loo but will go into a corner and do it in his pants. I have a 10 month old as well so I cannot know what the eldest is doing at all times. I have tried stickers, balls in jars, bribes etc but now I am getting fed up with it all - if I have to wash another pair of pooey pants................ has any body got any suggesttions for me please?

Does he poo at a similar time each day?

Has he poo'd on the loo in the past?

He may be unhappy with the dropping away sensation, i have in the past put a loo paper bridge in the loo/potty so initial poo didn't drop really but did once motion was almost over.

My ds2 pooed in his pants for what seemed like months, but was probably only a few weeks. It's just a phase and it will pass. By all means try incentives, but don't make him feel bad if he can't do it yet. Just grit your teeth and scrub those pants...

Nothing but lots of sympathy here....we have only just cracked it...after more than 6 months of plenty of accidents. It is so hard to stay positive....but I honestly think that is what it takes. Do not tell off....just say better luck next time...ie, be really gentle! I found it helps to close door and wash underwear or clear up mess away from them while swearing rather vehemently!!! I would come out feeling a little less angry and fed up!!!
Good luck...

might have something to do with the kind of seat over the toilet seat he's using? Their feet need to be touching something solid and it sometimes helps to have something for their arms to 'hang' on to, or 'push' against - our seat cover is an first years ( early years?) that has handles on each side

tesco chocolate footballs. one for each toilet poo. it worked on ds1, he is 3.4.

get the football out in the morning, if he poos pants when you know he knew he needed to go, put the football away for the day, try again tomorrow.

Ds is same age and won't use the toilet. He does tell me when he needs a poo though and we put a nappy on. Every now and then I encourage a bit of toilet action but it just makes him really tense and he ends up holding on instead of pooing, so I am just leaving it. He is fine at weeing in the toilet, it's just poos.
