Where do you change baby's bot downstairs?

Hi,

Silly question really but what do others do? I shouldn't really but I use the dining table with a mat on and a baby box of nappies and creams etc, or sometimes on the floor. I haven't bought a downstairs change table as thought it a silly expense, just wondered what other mums and dads did?

Thanks

Di

I always did it on my lap.

changing table upstairs (very handy for storage, of which we have very little), mat downstairs on the floor.

mumofboyo · 10/03/2014 17:16

On the floor. The child lays between my legs so I can see what I'm doing - I really struggle to do it on a change table where they're laid sideways on from me! I have all the stuff on the side and grab it all before getting dc and I into position.
Dh does the same.

At the moment we're using a mat on the dining room table. We have a basket with nappies etc so it's reasonably tidy. Upstairs we use a mat on the bedroom floor.

curlyclaz13 · 10/03/2014 17:17

We have a set of stuff downstairs and I just put the mat on the floor and set upstairs again mat on the floor, bathroom or bedroom. No changing table which was good as he rolled from 12 weeks !

drspouse · 10/03/2014 17:18

With both of mine I just took them upstairs and changed them on the changer where the mat, nappies, wipes, cream, nappy bags/bin were always set up.

Only have one and he's 2y 2mo but this. Occasional inspection in the downstairs loo when he says he wants to sit on the loo/is doing a poo, if he has, we go upstairs.

I had a really bad back when he was about 4mo and moved the mat etc. downstairs as I couldn't carry him, but that was for less than a week.

With my pfb I had a changing station, lovingly dettoled before and after each use. Was always in the way and a dust magnet!
Now with dt's they get changed wherever they are, on my lap, the floor, the sofa - even standing up in the passenger seat (obviously I'm not driving at the time!). I'm hoping they'll potty train soon as we've had to go back to disposables and I hate them

introvertygerty · 10/03/2014 18:03

On the sofa

Kezzybear · 10/03/2014 19:43

With ds1 I used the changing table. Ds2 and 3 mat on the floor if downstairs, mat on the bed if upstairs!

Luciferbox · 10/03/2014 19:45

Changing mat on the floor with a box of stuff hidden under the nest of tables.

BocaDeTrucha · 10/03/2014 21:17

We have a big through living room /kitchen and use the ikea £25 changing station. We don't have one upstairs as just change him on the bed up there. However, he's 5 months and already getting too long for the ikea table and when he kicks he bashes his heels on the edge!

poocatcherchampion · 10/03/2014 21:26

we have a changing table downstairs as well as upstairs. big house and I CBA to be down on my knees the whole time.

Felix90 · 10/03/2014 22:07

Boca we have the same ikea one and dd is only 11 weeks and is getting too long for it!

ZebraZeebra · 11/03/2014 06:44

Anywhere! On the floor, on the sofa, on the table, on the coffee table. When he was first born, we used the coffee table as a makeshift changing table and stored everything there. No way could I be faffed with running upstairs when he had explosive up-the-back poos. I also didn't bother with a changing table - it seemed like one of those items you think you need, an item baby shops tell you that you need...but that you don't really.

Shellywelly1973 · 11/03/2014 06:48

On my lap if downstairs. On changing mat in bedroom if upstairs.

QuestQueCest · 11/03/2014 06:51

Changing mat on the floor and a box with nappies, wipes, bum cream & change of clothes.

MrTumblesBavarianFanbase · 11/03/2014 06:53

I have 3 kids and always have used the changing table upstairs. We have a big German changing table which is also a roomy cupboard for baby clothes, and my 98cm tall nearly 3 year old still fits on it. I change nappies in the car if necessary when out, but have never seen a need to change them downstairs if at home. I had 3 c-sections, which may be why I never started a habbit of changing them on the floor...

BertieBotts · 11/03/2014 06:53

Always did it on a mat on the floor.

I change DD upstairs in her room. I have never changed a nappy downstairs and am a bit dismayed when other mums come to my house and change their babies on my living room carpet! It just never occurs to me to change DD anywhere other than upstairs.

If I go to anyone elses house, I change DD in their bathroom - never downstairs on the floor.

Slebmum · 11/03/2014 14:03

floor, sofas, my lap. We used a mat when they were still at the gross explosive poo stage but don't bother anymore. Have never used the table but only because they would roll off it.

Eletheomel · 11/03/2014 14:35

Ponceypeas - I presume the mums in question are using a change mat on the floor and aren't laying the baby directly on the carpet????

flipflopsonfifthavenue · 11/03/2014 16:18

changing mat on the floor at first. when DS started rolling/refusing to stay still, I started always going to the bathroom, where he mostly stands now while I change is nappy. Decided that keeping everyone's poo and pee in the same room of the house was worth the extra faff.

We're having work done to the house next month and putting a downstairs WC in and I CANNOT WAIT!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
