Weaning early for milk protein allergy

Basically wondering if anyone has done this and if I could have some tips.

My son is 5 months old and has a terrible milk protein allergy, only drinking about 700ml milk a day (which I have to feed him in his sleep as he hates it so much). He actually sleeps better at night if he doesn't have milk near bedtime as it upsets his tummy so much ??

I have tried aptamil, neocate, aptamil pepti, goats milk, soy milk, cow and gate, numerous comfort milks and more but nothing has made him happy and it is a constant struggle to get him to drink.

So I was wondering if I can start giving him solids now and slowly get him eating more solids and water and the bare minimum amount of milk? What would be the minimum amount of milk I could give him ?

Any advice much appreciated.

...also an update on him in general since I stated giving solids. So far pear, peach, banana, broccoli and peas (all puréed obviously). He actually wants food! I'm so used to seeing him turn his head away from his bottle that it is so refreshing to see him open his mouth like a little fish and gulp down spoonfuls of food! It's lovely :)

Most if you (especially if you have fine through it yourselves) have been so supportive and made me feel like I'm not alone in this struggle.

Sounds like it was a pretty positive appointment GiveMe, and glad to hear he's taking to the food well. The blood tests should clear things up. And if it is a lactose issue rather than a true allergy then that might (?) make it easier to find some good alternatives.

I don't know how I misread about the hives. Sorry.

Soy formula/yoghurts might be just the thing too (DD can't take much soy, so we avoid it, but on the rare occasions she has the yoghurts she loves them).

Good luck!
