And on my way back the taxi driver judged me!!!!

"I would never even consider sharing a taxi with any other man apart from my husband"

("Oh, right? I think I am pretty safe in the front seat of a taxi, don't you? I've also got 2 stone on him, and I know where he lives, I won't start worrying yet, ay!")

"Your children are very young for you to be going out this late"

("Yes, they are young, but I have left them with their dad, not a stranger!"

People like her give motherhood the reputation of being joyless drudgery.

He's jealous.

colditz · 12/08/2006 09:07

She!!!

She!!

That's what has left me so gobsmacked!!!

Anyway, I am twenty-bloody-six, not sixty-two, my social life is by no means over yet, thankyou, Mrs Taxi Driver/Virgin-flippin-Mary.

So if driver was a she, then who was the man you were sharing a taxi with?

One of my mates, he lives the same end of town as me. She was commenting on me getting a taxi with a man who wasn't my husband, but I think in her mind, 'Taxi' reads 'dirty weekend in hotel'

That's how she reacted anyway.

Stupid woman. Its ok for her to go out taxi driving every night and leave her kids then. Miserable old bat, just jealous you have alife I guess

Gerryd · 12/08/2006 09:12

I would have found it hard to to swear at her!

Gerryd · 12/08/2006 09:14

I was at a motorway service station once with my baby who was only 2 months old. A lady who was serving in the shop had a right go at me for my son sucking on a dummy, she said that it was "totally disgusting and i should be ashamed" I am quite a young mum (23) but look a lot younger and felt toally dominated and devasted by this comment. I ran out of the shop in tears. I have sworn to myself if anyone judges me like that again, i will just not take it!

colditz · 12/08/2006 09:15

She really didn't seem jealous, tbh, just horrified.

It would be interesting to do a study on children raised by women who socialise regularly (or would like to) and those who sacrafice their life to Motherhood.

Are we only around to go in taxis with our DHs now then?!
Did you say anything? I normally just mtter "Ah well....." in such situations!

colditz · 12/08/2006 09:16

at your motorway woman, Gerry

Other women should understand just how hard it is to retain a social life when you have kids. If theu are not mothers themselves then surely they know someone who is!

colditz · 12/08/2006 09:17

i actually said the words I have typed in brackets. no shrinking violet, me!

good for you colditz
Still

Blondilocks · 12/08/2006 10:53

GRR how annoying! I don't understand how she could say things like that! It's none of her business anyway.

It's far better to share a taxi with a male friend then to get one on your own. Maybe she's not allowed out anywhere to socialise unless her husband is with her & is jealous.

Realistically so long as the children are left with someone you trust and know they will look after them then who cares if you stay out til midnight, or later or even all night.

How awful also regarding the woman in the shop. I really don't know what makes these two women feel that they have the authority to make these comments.

Carmenere · 12/08/2006 11:15

Colditz I would have told her I was going to report her to the carraige office for rudeness and I would have done it. How dare she pass comment on you

Gerry - that woman, as I'm sure you realise now, was just a f*cking nutter and I'm sure she did not last long in the service industry

southeastastra · 12/08/2006 11:19

sounds like a weird thing to say more than anything else!

kimi · 12/08/2006 12:13

And just where was HER husband while she was driving all and sundrey around in the middle of the night???
And who was looking after HER children.
Ithink i missed the bit in the baby manuals that said life stops once you have a baby and you must forevermore stay in on a friday night and watch big brother (enough to drive anyone out of their house imo)
Dont use that taxi firm again, and tell everyone youknow notto either.

koshka1984 · 12/08/2006 13:57

wow that sounds like the taxi driver i had a week after i gave birth. she poured scorn on me that i was going out without he baby and told me i had an easy birth cos i had an epidural. i just said that i was so,like, sorry for giving the name woman a bad reputation! she didnt know that id been in hosp for 3 days being induced.

stupid judgey-people
