Salmon patch/ stork mark/ angel kiss birthmark - any experiences with these?

My baby boy is 3 weeks old and he has a salmon patch/stork bite on his forehead and across his eyelid. At first, I thought it was a bruise from the way he was delivered. But I was told by the doctor that it's a salmon patch birth mark, sometimes known as angel kisses or stork bites. It is a bit redder and bigger than ones I have seen on Google images though!

Does anyone else have experience of these birthmarks? I am told it will fade before he starts school. I'm not worried about it as, if it's just a salmon patch, as I know it's not dangerous. I am just curious to know other people's experiences!

My DS has one on his forehead which is fading slowly and mainly covered by his hair so I forget it's there. And also one on his ribs which is bigger and more red. I was told they should of faded/gone by the time he is five. He is now 2 and a half so we shall see

My dd1 has stork mark in between her eyes and across one eyelid. Faded to nearly nothing by about 1, but still used to flare up when she was crying or in a temper. Finally disappeared totally at about 4 ish. She's now 8 and no sign of it at all

Thanks for sharing! I have actually noticed - after looking at his newborn photos - that it had very slightly started to fade already and he's only 7 weeks old.

My daughter had a few of these. They mostly went by the time she was three but when she's upset or angry sometimes you can still faintly see where they were, it's like they glow a bit red.
At first I was quite conscious of them and worried for her, and took lots of photos in black and white so it wouldn't be obvious Blush. Now I like them because they made her, 'her'.

dandelionsRflowers · 02/04/2014 13:23

My dd is 5 and hers is still visible. I'm hoping it fades soon. A lady in the supermarket a few weeks ago asked if she had bumped her head. Dd said no, the lady was adament she had bumped her head but dd didn't have a clue what she was going on about. I didn't bother explaining. Dd also has one on her hairline at the back, it's faded a bit but these aren't supposed to go completely.

Felyne I used to look at other babies thinking there was something missing, something not quite right. It was the birthmarks. And the made her 'her' too. We recently had some proffesional photos done and the photographer had airbrushed the birthmark out, dd looked odd!

curiousgeorgie · 02/04/2014 13:46

Both my DDs have this in between the eyes and across the right eyelid.

Like others have said, they're much more noticeable when angry or ill!

DD1's disappeared by about a year.

DD2 still has hers at 9 months and its quite bright, but I'm assured it will go!

Graciescotland · 02/04/2014 13:58

DS2 had two one from his nose diagonally up over his forehead and one on the back of his neck. One on the face is invisible, unless he's upset and crying or ill. The one on the back of his neck is still there but it's under his hairline so less obvious anyway.

He's 16mo now.

Dd2 has stork marks on forehead and back of neck. They just look like when an old bump to the head is almost faded completely and are more visible when cross!

Both dh's siblings had the same and her cousin had one too!

She also has some strawberry marks blobs on her body, one of which has turned brown and shrunk significantly (at 21 months).

Beccawoo · 02/04/2014 18:21

Dd had on one eyelid and back of neck. She's 2 now, eyelid mark has faded away and the one on her neck had moved up as she's grown and is under her hair.

BikeRunSki · 02/04/2014 18:26

Ds had one on the back of his neck and one on his eyelid. He is 5.6 now and they faded so completely, so long ago I'd forgotten about them until I saw this post. Just checked him - not a sign they were ever there.

As an update - LO is now 3 months old and it's faded significantly. It's still visible, even though I often forget about it. But I occasionally get reminded it's still there as the postman said yesterday: "oh what's that mark on his forehead?"

Hi Nickname1980 , i Know this post is Very old but wanted to get an updated from you on your little one and his little birth marks.
I have a little girl ( 7 weeks) and she was also born with salmon patches ( I have been told ) on nose top and bottom of her nose , both eyelids and a storke bite on her front as well as red mark on her back neck.
I found it very hard for her , I am so hoping it will go with time. In France, people talk about laser . It already has faded a little from birth. And when she is very calm and in her bouncer they disappeared but it s more often red and visible. I feel so sorry for her. I love her so much and really don t want her to suffer later on. I just worry so much.
Any updated will help me understand how things are going for others.
Any help or advices. I will be so grateful.
Thank you so much.

Hi Marie I would try not to worry about the marks if you can. They should fade a lot over the first year. My DD was born with them across her eyelids and each side of and underneath her nose. The patches on her eyelids vanished at about 9 months and the patches around her nose are much less visible now. She's 21 months and you can only see them when she's hot/crying. According to our GP they should be totally gone by the time she starts school. Congratulations on your new baby Flowers

TragicallyUnbeyachted · 22/06/2016 23:05

Hi Mariemimilondon -- all three of mine have had these at birth.

DD1 and DD2 just had them on eyelids and those faded over the first year or so -- they are 8 and 5 now and I can't see the marks at all.

DS had a big one in the middle of his forehead and another at the back of his head. The one at the back of his head became covered with hair pretty quickly so hasn't been visible at all for ages. The one on his forehead... it's hard to say exactly. It did fade a LOT over the first year and I would say that no one really commented on it after that. Then it faded some more over the next year (although would be more obvious if he was crying or angry). He's 11 now and, to be honest, I can still see it if I look closely. It's not something that's obvious at all and I doubt anyone outside me and DH would ever notice it, but because we know it's there we can still see it IYSWIM. But it's very very subtle now and we have to specifically look for it (the only reason I know I can still see it is that we had a conversation about it a couple of months ago and I stared at his forehead then).
