vomiting/ reflux at 16 weeks

My little boy has started projectile vomiting after every feed. He is mixed fed and it makes no difference whether I give him breast milk or formula.
As he was never a rufluxy baby until now (I rarely even needed to use bibs) I don't really have any idea what I should be doing about it (if anything at all).
Is this normal for this age? I vaguely remember people that had sicky babies from the start talking about gastrografin etc. But is that neccesary now or do I just ride the wave?
He is currently being treated for bad eczema especially on his cheeks so the vomiting is not ideal. But I am loathe to give him any more drugs as he is already on a cocktail of stuff for that.

If he's not in pain or discomfort I'd leave him as he is. IME medication does nothing to help with the vomiting, it's all geared toward dealing with excess acid. That said, as this has just started I'd suggest you monitor him closely and consider seeing a GP - it could be that he's reacting to the drugs he's on rather than reflux.

See GP I think. Has he always been mixed-fed?
It could be something or nothing: for example, it could be milk protein intolerance, especially with the eczema.

I think "normal" baby reflux is supposed to peak at 4 months, so could just be that but with the eczema as well it might be worth a chat to the GP about possible cows milk intolerance.

he has been mixed fed since 10 weeks and problem just started in last week. They seem to be getting less projectile today. The specialist said that the chances of any food intolerances are extremely low as they are rarely associated with eczema. He has typical atopic eczema. He is taking Piriton. So possible a reaction to that. Will keep an eye on it if it carries on will go to GP.

That is complete and utter rubbish about food intolerances. Atopia makes food allergies far more likely.

apermanentheadache · 23/02/2014 20:28

Atopic eczema, not Atopia Blush

User3433399 · 23/02/2014 21:11

Yep total tosh your 'specialist' has told you. Eczema strongly linked to cows milk protein intolerance. If he's only been on milk formula for six weeks the symptoms could be ramping up at this point. I speak as a mum with a child who had severe reflux with a milk allergy. Who is advising you? Can't be an allergist...

extracrunchy · 23/02/2014 21:48

Er yep same from me - eczema is strongly linked to food allergies/intolerances. Whoever told you it isn't is an idiot!

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 23/02/2014 22:04

My DS has eczema, reflux and a cows milk protein allergy. What you have been told is complete rubbish!

You need to see a GP and probably get a referral to an allergy team and dermatologist.

apermanentheadache · 23/02/2014 22:23

It is unlikely to be the piriton - I don't think vomiting is a common side effect with it. The timing of milk introduction fits perfectly with delayed CMP intolerance.

GingerMaman · 23/02/2014 22:58

It sounds like cows milk protein allergy. Ask your GP for Aptamil Pepti 2, and insist you want it.

If you are based in London I can pass you some to try x

extracrunchy · 23/02/2014 23:40

Wouldn't it be Pepti 1? That's for under 6 months right? We had both for DS1 but can't remember why or when...

Pobblewhohasnotoes · 24/02/2014 06:57

We had Neocate for DS. He didn't tolerate Aptamil Pepti as it still contains milk protein, although broken down. Neocate is completely dairy free.

Just an update : His vomiting appears to have calmed down. Think it might have been a dicky tummy
