Fruit in 18mo

He will eat fruit mushed. But I have to give him it.
If I let him do it himself he just holds it in his mouth like a hamster. Then he gags/chokes or spits it out.

I give him one bit at a time, but still won't chew.
IV started giving him a piece of fruit then a cheadder, or a bit of biscuit and he eats it.

My question is should I continue with what im doing, (feel like im counteracting the fruit though).
Or anyone have another suggestion?

How about....

On cereal
In yoghurt
As a smoothie

Would he take small pieces in porridge or rice pudding to start getting use to it not being mush?

What happens if you hold the spoon together?

Ds would only eat puréed fruit til he was about 2 1/2 (except bananas he'd eat them normally). He's neat eight now and eats whole fruit. I won't worry

I would keep trying. My first and third both choked and gagged with fruit. With DS1 I gave up and at 11 he still won't eat it. With DD2 I battled on and she now loves all fruit at 21 months.
Try just soft fruit, like kiwi for a bit. When she got the hang of that I moved on to grated hard fruit like apple, then super thin slices.
Good luck.
