Could hormones cause nappy rash?!

Ok, I don't know if this is a long shot or not. DS (3months) has developed a nappy rash. No spots, just bright red. He's in terry nappies but has plenty nappy free time every day. He has had this before and now that I've been thinking about it, it was a month ago, a few days before AF... Could there be a connection?

I know AF can effect feeding (he has been a bit fussy) but I'm not sure if it can cause nappy rash...

Anyone ever had this happen or could it just be total coincidence in the timing?

TIA

Have the GP do a thrush swab as not all babies get the white spots that commonly indicate thrush.

I have recently looked after 2 babies who had thrush but without the spots and both responded quickly to CANESTAN HC.

My first son came out in a rash from head to toe that started of a bit like nappy rash and cradle cap but soon covered his whole face and body when he was about 4 weeks old - 2 weeks later I had my first AF, when he was about 8 weeks old the same thing happened - no prizes for guessing how quickly I went back onto the pill to regulate my hormones, didn't chance it with the second son - got them at the hospital. It's a big possibility that it could be linked to yours too.

Thanks for replies... It does seem to be clearing up a little bit - always the same with rashes, they are so quick to appear but take forever to clear up...

He's getting his immunisations tomorrow so I'll maybe ask the nurse.

Ta though

What did the nurse say asur?

rash had totally cleared up by the time of the appointment (I was amazed but happy obviously)

Was going to mention it anyway but they had changed the appointment from nurse to HV - she is a totally incompetant fool so decided against it!

Of course asur.

Maybe it does relate to AF, will have to see next month.

Agree via HV

yup, just have to wait patiently for next month... If it is AF, I guess DS will just have to get used to it - might make him more sympathetic of PMT when he's older!

well there is that hope.
