Spending on baby clothes

Hi Mums,

My baby is nearly 8 months old and I feel like all our money goes on baby clothes! What is normal to spend? She grows out of everything so fast but my husband thinks I spend too much!

Thanks :)

I don't buy second hand (it's my own crazy issues) and don't get hand downs but buy every size all at the same time I spend about £50 excluding shoes and jackets. The £50 covers everything vests PJ's socks the lot I but from Asda Dunns and Matalan once I've bought that size usually a while before he needs it I don't buy anything else unless something has to go in the bin. DS is 2 now so in the clothes year long so I will do the same but seasonally. I found with my niece I would pick things up every week or so and she ended up with lots of hardly worn clothes I can't afford to do that now.

For shoes he only ever had 1 pair at a time from Clarks outlet store about £25 a size and winter jacket I spend £20 snow suit £30 max

I'll sort out an Amazon wish lists for birthday and Christmases. You can add other websites on so maybe select some clothing?

Ebay bundles are brilliant - I went on there to try and sell stuff and now I buy probably 75% of my kids' clothes that way. Sleeping bags as well. We'd be down about £400 now if all our grobags (summer and winter, plus spares, for twins) had been bought new, but I think we've paid about £40 in all.

Car boot sales are fab most clothes go for 20p to 50p, its aso worth asking sellers for a deal as most carbooters just want to get rid of stuff esp towards end of sale! Charity shos can be good, but I find can also be pricey and you need to check item for stains/holes. But you don't need that much, I made sure I had a change of clothes for everyday of the week plus 2 spare sets in case of soiled clothes following nappy leak. One warm coat. I also tried to get leggings with feet attached, as mine always kicked socks off even with 'socks-on'. I founded dungarees really useful. But if your little one is crawling leggings are easier for them!
But yu shouldn't need to spend much, unless of course you enjoy it!!

I would second the eBay recommendation. I got all the clothes dd will need from 9-18 months for £18 from a local seller. All in great condition, as they grow out of stuff so quickly that nothing is worn more than a few times!

Charity shops. NCT sales are brilliant.
