or is this tradition now redundant with modern training,
its just at a dinnner the other night someone said its not advisable
but i do it occasionally with dd if i knowingly know shes had a bit too much to drink before bed
and it hasnt done her nighttime loo going any harm as she regularly goes herself in the night shes 4 in oct btw.

I don't see any problen with that, if she stills goes on her own, it's just like an insurance policy

Don't have a problem with it myself. Did it with dd and am doing it now with ds. hasn't caused me any problems, and is a lot simpler than stripping a bed!

My ds was 4 in April, he is dry at night now but I started by lifting him. Agree it is much simpler than stripping a bed.

After a month or so, with bedtime drinks limited to before 6pm he no longer needed lifting.

its not for my dd, shes well trained at night and coped it literally last christmas, it was for this other persons child who sleeps with them at 4, and still wees in the night but they have a nappy on him but want to train and get him out of their bed as they end up stripping it quite often....

I lift my daughter around 11pm ish. If I don't she'll usually wake up herself around this time and want a wee. This is probably because she has got used to going at about that time. It certainly lessens the risk of a wet bed or alternatively her waking up extra early in the morning because she's desperate for a wee!
