I know some drop before 1 and others nsp psst school age, but on average when do they drop the lunchtime nap?

Dd is 2.2 uses to sleep 7.30pm-7am with a nap 1pm-3pm/3.30pm.

Lately she's been waking at 5.30am-6am for the day and waking from her nap around 2pm.

she still seems cranky after her nap but refuses to go back to sleep.

Does it sound like she's ready to drop her nap?

^Obviously that should read 2.5 years, not months.

Ds is 3.4 and doesn't nap every day but still needs one most days for between 1 and 1.5 hours.

DD was 18 months.

DS was almost 4 years old.

DS1 and 2 were 2 and I brought their bedtime forward a bit. dS3 was also 2 but seemed to need one every other day for about a month.

Our DS is 2 and thank god shows no sign of dropping his nap - he's just off to sleep now and I'm delighted as I'm ill today and on my own with him so I can rest up for a couple of hours. He's not asleep before 8pm most nights though - sometimes 8.30pm. Some of our NCT group have dropped the nap but that was because they were being DREADFUL about going to bed in the daytime and staying up really late.

You'll probably have to put up with a grumpy toddler later in the afternoon for a bit though.

Poocatcher, I was determined to make room sharing work as early as possible, but the first month was v hard and I nearly gave up after a week. Ds1 would shout NOOOOO! whenever ds2 cried or snuffled, making him cry even harder! It took daily reassurance that ds1 didn't need to shout, we could hear/see everything on the monitor and would come in if ds2 needed us.

Now, they wouldn't be without each other. If ds2 has to be taken into our room for a nappy change (very rare) ds1 will witter on about he can't sleep without him until he returns to bed and vice versa, ds2 stands up and yells until ds1 has been to the loo, or whatever. So basically, the initial pain was worth it Grin

Statistics:
Ds2 was 5 1/2 months old when we put him into ds1's room, he was 2y 4m. Ds2 was almost sleeping through, no feeds. Even if he woke early, I put the feed off til 7am. We reckoned that when ds2 was in with us, we were all disturbing each other so it was time to go! I like my sleep Grin

When I asked the wise mumsnetters, I got lots of advice, the bits I took included:
Try not to let ds1 feel like ds2 is taking over his space.
Don't be cross with ds1, keep explaining ds2 is a baby and babies cry cos they can't talk.
Don't chop and change, you've started so keep going or ds will get mixed messages (on occasion, I had taken ds2 back into our room in the early hours when he'd snuffled and ds1 had been yelling).

Hope that helps.

Ds came out of a cot at 2.5 and he dropped th official nap then, though would often fall asleep on the sofa until he was about 3.

Dd carried on napping in her bed until she was 3.

DS dropped his a month ago at 2.11yo. I didn't realised how much I needed that 1.5hrs to myself until it was gone..sob.
