Any tips on getting my 9 week old DD2 to sleep at 7pm?

By 8 weeks I remember I was putting DD1 down at 7pm and although it took ages to get her to sleep to start with the process got quicker after a while. I remember it was 8 weeks with DD1 because it was Christmas week.

So now DD2 is 9 weeks old and I have tried to put her down at 7pm. This round I have no trouble getting her off to sleep but then she wakes up after 20mins and cries and I can't get her back off. After the 10pm feed however she happily goes down and doesn't wake back up again until she is hungry about 5 hours later.

She is FF and I have tried to offer her extra feeds in the evening but she evidently isn't hungry.

Makes no difference if she is downstairs with us, whether she is a bouncy seat or being cuddled. She just cries.

She is obviously very tired but what can I do to help her sleep?

Anyone else had this problem and solved it?

Its colic. I think you need to lower your expectations. Try baby massage and other tricks to relieve it.

She's sleeping 5hrs straight. That constitutes through the night.

Oh I'm not worried about the lack of sleep. I'm very happy with the 5 hrs. She is just so obviously tired in the evening and i think if only i could get her to sleep then she would be so much happier.

Baby massage huh? I have seen tutorials on you tube so I shall take another look.

Try earlier. The waking after 20 mins is a classic sign of being too tired. Try 6pm instead.

Also, this is normal when that young...but def should start sleeping earlier soon. I noticed with both of mine, it gradually got earlier. For example 8:30pm and then 7pm. Make sure you put her in dark room, bed time routine with nice warm bath before and baby massage after (just use coconut or some other baby friendly oil after bath in warm room and rub gently on body).

I was you 4 weeks ago! DD gradually went down earlier and now is usually down between 7 and 8, sometimes even before 7. Starting the bedtime routine at 6 helped for us (it had been more like 6.45 with her older brother). Don't worry, it will come in time!

My DD1 started to consistently go down for bed at 7pm around 12 weeks old. It was rather frustrating that it took until 15 weeks for DD2 to do that. I was desperate to get some evening back but she had other ideas and preferred to feed every hour in the evening. She got there in the end though, so I am sure your baby will.

We had that problem with DS2. With DS1 we started trying to get an early bedtime when he was 12 weeks and within a week he was going down at 7:30pm (still waking loads, but that was par for the course :-)

With DS2 I thought it'd be the same and we started a routine for him at about 9/10 weeks, perservered until week 12 and it had only brought his 'natural' bedtime forward by 30 minutes!

So, we went back to having him downstairs (3 weeks of missing telly and chocolate at night was too much for us!) and tried again at 16 weeks, and this time we managed to get progress.

I think it's largely perserverence (and give up for a bit if you're feeling the pain of having no evenings) and getting them up at the same (early) time every morning can help them go down in the evenings (e.g. if you want her down at 7pm at night, wake her every morning at 7am - if you can stomach it :-). Good luck, it will happen (honest!)
