Weighing clinic

Hi,
Is taking baby to weighing clinic a must ?
I'm thinking of buying a baby weighing scales and doing it myself. I don't want to take her there anymore as it's poorly heated and my baby was shivering when I undressed her, she is only 6 weeks old and ended up catching a cold from thereAngry

I was standing there fully dressed and felt cold myself. Poor thing didn't sleep :(

I don't want to take her there and sit in waiting room where everyone is coughing etc...

It's not compulsory, so no you don't have to go. I would only bother if you thought your baby wasn't gaining weight well. Ditto for home scales. Completely unnecessary to weigh at home unless you have concerns about weight gain.

I only went about 4 times and not at all since 5 months. DS is now 18 months. Smile

Agree with Ex. As long as your baby is bright and alert at times, you are feeding on demand and baby seems satisfied after feeding there should be no need to weigh the baby.

I wouldnt bother buying scales. You can get a general idea of weight by stepping on the scales while holding and then not holding her and working out the difference.

That's assuming the OP has scales power Smile

I suppose - just giving an option if she has her own scales rather than buying baby weighing ones Smile

I didn't bother. We got a pair of digital scales. Weighed myself without and then with DD and worked out the difference. Sure it might not be totally exact but it showed me if she was going up or down!

I don't think I'll be taking my son again (he's 10 weeks).

I have no concerns about his weight - he's 91st centile and has been all four times he's been weighed so far (mw, 2 baby weigh clinic and 8 week check). He feeds brilliantly as well.

I've hated both times we've been to weigh clinic. It's on once a week for 2 hours so gets absolutely packed and the hv who runs it is the most patronising person ever!

I've never taken DD, she was weighed by HV at 6 weeks at home and then again at her 1 year check. As long as you are happy with her feeding and growth you don't need to take her

i never took my DTs, i was happy they were/are growing well and have no concerns so there is no point for me. i would occassionally pop up to our surgery and pop them on the scales fully clothes (we have scales available in the waiting room there) but this was more about being able to give accurate information if they need weight-relevant medication etc than any worry about their weight gain.

it is not compulsory by any means.
