Baby groups, mixing with kids

Hi Guys,

I work full time and my mum (63) looks after my 11 month old son. He needs to interact with other kids (loves Baby Jake) and was wondering if anyone could suggest something free/affordable for my mum to take him somewhere in the Forest Hill/Sydenham area. Would really appreciate any suggestions. Tx

Try your children's centre. There are often a few grandparents at baby play sessions- I'm nearer Penge, and ours does, but Eliot Bank is closer to you and they are very welcoming and have baby play on Friday morning.

Libraries often hold baby song groups.

It depends what your mum would want. There are tons of playgroups, pretty much every church or children's centre has them. Look at the church on normanton rd, it has one on a Friday or Monday morning or the baptist church on perry rise Tuesday mornings.

Or there are library rhyme times - apparently the one on tues morning at sydenham is good. Forest hill one gets very busy. Catford lib on a Wednesday

Or busy bees at the Horniman - tues/fri morning.

Or more organised franchise local groups little bubbles, monkey music, tippee toes etc. these are more expensive but can be good. All of then do free taster sessions

Also singing in Mayow park on Tuesday morning (although better for summer months).

Check out your local swimming pool too as there is often a parent/toddler session.

Have you tried asking on Mn local as well?

the library is a great place to start. We have been going to free bookbug sessions since DS was 12 weeks old and he still loves it at 20mo.

There is baby rhyme time at the local libraries which is singing songs and the nearby children's centres do baby massage (to be booked), baby sensory and baby stay and play. All are free- the ones that say under 18mths are better though as the under 5s are really for older toddlers. I am a bit further up in East Dulwich but some of our local pubs do coffee mornings and there is swimming at Peckham Pulse and the Bridge Leisure Centre.
