It could of killed him Hmm

Can't believe I was so stupid, he's been rolling for days now, didn't realise he was so close to the edge. Honestly hate myself right now.

Don't know why I'm writing this down, only thing that will make me feel better is a CT scan.

He seems fine Hmm

Welcome to the club.

Tough little cookies those pesky rolly babies Smile

MothratheMighty · 28/01/2014 20:14

They are very bouncy and flexible, and at 5+ months old, he's heading towards the falling off/getting stuck under things phase. It will upset you far more than him.
Did he land on carpet? Was he cross enough to squark at you? Smile
He will be fine.

FishCalledWonder · 28/01/2014 20:14

10 week old fell off the sofa. Twice. It happens to us all!

Ah, babies falling off the bed - brings back memories! :)

gamerchick · 28/01/2014 20:16

I've never met a kid who didn't fall off the bed at some point.

They really do bounce mostly.

pinkbear82 · 28/01/2014 20:16

Someone I was talking to the other day about rolly babies and falling off things said 'ah yes, once they've rolled off of something you are on the inside of the parenting group. Don't know a single parent that hasn't had something that's been rolled off of at some point'.

Have a Brew/Wine it'll all be ok.

starkadder · 28/01/2014 20:21

The first time is the worst. Smile

DipMeInChocolate · 28/01/2014 20:23

My baby fell off the sofa. I think she was 3 months. She's 6 now and completely fine.

TheSurgeonsMate · 28/01/2014 20:24

Once for each parent is the absolute minimum. I knew this even before my baby started to roll as I had had this conversation - "When do you think you start being careful of where you put them?" "I think that's after the first time they fall off the bed...."

happyfrogger · 28/01/2014 20:27

Yup. Mine was feeding in bed. I fell asleep and was woken with a sickening thus when she rolled off onto the floor. We both sobbed. Me for much longer :)

Indith · 28/01/2014 20:27

They all do it. Even number 3 child, you'd have thought we'd have go the message by then but I reckon they are the most at risk as you get distracted by an older child and plonk the baby down without thinking. Dh once sat ds2 on the bed to help ds1 pick his lego up. He thought ds2 would be safer up there rather than on the floor eating lego. Of course ds2 disagreed, he gave himself an impressive egg from striking the corner of the chest of drawers on the way down.

In all seriousness, although we joke and say we have all done it (and we really have) it is possible to cause injury. It is rare but possible so do watch out for anything such as vomiting or drowsiness. I do know someone whose baby got a skull fracture from falling off a bed/sofa.

beachesandbuckets · 28/01/2014 20:27

My first born baby fell off bed when he was 3 HOURS old, the first time me and him were left alone on the post delivery ward. I was traumatised thinking I would make an awful mummy. He was assessed by the doctors and I was 'checked up on' every hour or so by the midwives (not sure if they thought I had done it intentionally). He was fine and now a huge 6 year old. Don't worry, it does happen x

HomeIsWhereTheHeartIs · 28/01/2014 20:31

My DS is 8 months and I'm surprised he's got this far without falling or being dropped. I'm very clumsy. Sure it won't be long now.

TeaandHobnobs · 28/01/2014 20:37

My DS started getting all gymnastic around 9 to 10 months, and on more than one occasion back flipped off my lap while I was trying to feed him. Only ever fell about a foot or so onto carpet, but quite often ended up with a little blood at the end of his nostril Sad however it was me in hysterics, he calmed down reasonably quickly.

Then at 19 months he managed to tumble all the way down the stairs Shock and cried a little but was basically fine within about a minute. We got him checked out (because although rationally he seemed fine, we couldn't relax until a dr told us that!) and there wasn't a bruise on him. It was like he's made of rubber!

Check for the signs to be aware of, but I'm sure he will be absolutely fine. And as you can see, it happens to us all!

SecretRed · 28/01/2014 20:39

It happened with my dd too at around the same age. I actually screamed when I heard the thud. She was fine but I felt so awful for days after.

ChoudeBruxelles · 28/01/2014 20:42

Ds used to like being thrown on our bed. One day I threw him a bit hard and he bounced off and landed smack on the floor.

Kids generally bounce you didn't do it on purpose. It happens

foxybingodotcom · 28/01/2014 20:43

It was a couch for my DS but he was better than me - very cross at the time though! What's worse was that I left him to answer the door to my first Happy Mothers Day flowers - every time I looked at them GUILT!

TheseAreTheJokesFolks · 28/01/2014 20:43

Thanks OP and breathe.
DD1 9 weeks rolled off futon. Also had carkeys dropped on forehead at 7 weeks (not me that time)
DD2 fell out of buggy onto concrete 7 months and off sofa 8 months and now is an expert at falling over and stair surfing
DS1 not rolled off anything yet touch wood or rather don't BUT has spectacularly learnt to stand up at 7 months the little sod and is now trying to cruise - cue more bumps this week than MrBump, no wonder my hair is going grey.

For future bumps you need blue cold compresses in the fridge - 20 minutes and also applying butter is not an old wives tale, it actually helps.
Goose eggs whilst looking awful better than nothing as no internal pressure then. Wailing good. Crying good. Unconscious bad. Vomitting bad.
Used to keep awake for min 2 hrs but GP said recently if bf and they fall asleep if no lack of consciousness let them sleep. Checking pupils are same size and react to light is your guide over the next 24 hours.
Noone died today (my mantra) Hugs x

Buchanon08 · 28/01/2014 20:45

My dd fell off a toddler bed at 12 weeks and she couldn't even roll but must have kicked off the wall. Worse as I didn't realise and left her crying a couple of minutes as she'd been asleep and I thought she might settle :( Cue dash to A&E and an x-Ray (and lots of questions!) all fine, she's 7 now. We live and learn!

HelenHen · 28/01/2014 20:45

Aww that's horrible! I thought I was doing really well til he rolled off his changing table at around 9 months! Then he fell all the way down the stairs at about a year old Shock I cried for about a week after that one! Brought him straight to a&e but he was just fine!

Notfastmainlyfurious · 28/01/2014 20:48

My dd took her first roll off the changing table and almost smacked headfirst off the floor - I caught her by the ankle. Just last week she went off the bed, off the sofa (twice) and off the rocking horse. At 21 months I expected a bit more sense, sadly no. Not from either of us apparently. Never a mark on her though.

morethanpotatoprints · 28/01/2014 20:49

I think most of us have done this.
Babies bounce and are made of tough stuff.
If you are worried at all, call out of hours, if baby seems fine don't worry yourself love.
Sending you a big hug x

mumofthemonsters808 · 28/01/2014 20:51

Oh this happened to me and I remember being traumatised and hysterical crying. She was fine but 11 years later I can still hear that thud.

ChrisMooseMickey · 28/01/2014 20:53

My 1yo has managed to split her lip, dive head first off a chair onto a wooden floor, and has been knocked over multiple times by the dog today.

The first time she fell off the sofa (was about 4no) I cried and cried. She looked at me like this Hmm after she had calmed down.

Welcome to parenthood. You're doing great.

JimbosJetSet · 28/01/2014 21:01

I was told 'Its not IF they fall off the bed, it's WHEN.'

It is very true.
