Potty training DD holdng on for hours then pooing/weeing in nappy - what to do?

I have a 2years 2 months DD. We started potty training about 4 weeks ago, used nappies whilst out and at night, but no nappy at home.

She gradually improved over the weeks, until we had about 3 days of no accidents, DD taking herself to the potty sometimes, being reminded at other tmes.

We give stickers for a 'good try' and a chockie button for a sucess.

She has only ever weed in the potty, always pooed in nappy at nap time.

Now, quite suddnly she is refusing to sit on the potty, and if we leave her nappy off she will hold on for hours (complains of a sore tummy, not surprisingly!) then either wet her pants or go in a nappy at nap time.

She definately understands and obously has good blader control.

I've heard that holding on like this can cause problems...should we just put the nappy back on full time?

We have recently had a DS (4 1/2 months ago) and DD is just beginninbg to get jealous and generally defiant.

Just wondering if anyone else has had this experience and how you dealt wih it.

Thanks in advance
Astro

We didn't do it this early, but ds could hold on for hours and hours too. I think you need to wait until she stops napping before expecting too much.

It took around 6 months before ds decided getting out of bed in the morning to go for a poo was a good idea.

you could try just not putting the nappy on.

or, if you know that she needs a poo get her to sit on the potty and blow up a balloon. Sounds crazy, but it works

You mean no nappy ever? I'm just worried she will keep holdng on and make herself sick!

Will try the balloon if I can get her to sit on pot! Today I put DS on it (hes 5 months!) to make her jealous and want to go on...she was jealous, told him to get off HER potty, but didn't sit!

yeah, you could give it a go. tell her that all the nappies are gone, chuck them in a bin (even if you remove them later when she isn't looking).
Tell her she is SUCH a big girl and then just big it up on the praise if you can get her to go on the potty.

If you take away the nappy she'll have nothing to hold on for! I think it is confusing for toddlers if sometimes they are allowed a nappy and sometimes not.

My DS1 pooed in his pants for ages, would not sit on a potty, but as soon as I got a seat for the big toilet he was fine - so perhaps ditch the nappy and the potty, make her a big girl with a special toilet seat instead.

Just accept that wees and poos are different. She will probably dump in her nappy for a while longer. But when she is up (unless she sleeps lots) she should be good for a couple of wees a day.
