So so proud of DD1!

Sorry just wanted to write this somewhere, DD1 has just turned 2 (last week) and although a few of her friends were being potty trained it looked to me to be a load of hassle adn they weren't ready for it just their mums being pushy. Anyway I bought DD1 a potty 2 weeks ago and she got a book about potty training for her birthday. With the hot weather she has been running about nappyless and peeing everywhere. On Friday she said to me in the morning "No natty (nappy) so I was like OK expecting loads of accidents but no since then she has been completely nappyless in the house and has had one accident.

She does about 25 pees a day though I feel like all I do is empty the potty! Today however she timed her poos with me feeding DD2 so I had to put DD2 down mid letdown so milk squirting everywhere and chase after DD1 to wipe her bum before she erm tries to herself. Also have to really keep an eye on her when she's on the potty as she likes to bring it to me to show me she's done a pee, cue pee slopping all over the carpet!

I am so proud of her, I wasn't even going to attempt to train her until she was 2 1/2. I think she's done it all herself through us reading the book together.

Oh forgot to add I'm still putting her in nappies for going anywhere but will this confuse her? Also last thing at night she is asking for potty but she has a nappy on which is also confusing her a bit I think?

With mine I made sure they used potty before bed a few times. Then put to bed with no nappy on, I used those protective sheets on the bed and just took it for granted that the bed would be wet and i would have to change it. I also told them to shout if they woke up and wanted to go to the loo. This worked for us, as after a time they dont shout and the bed is dry in the morning. For going out i still used a nappy untill they were dry when we came back. I still reminded them about needing the toilet when out and about though and took the nappy off let them wee /poo i then put one back on. Well done to your dd

This sounds just like my dd2.She was 2 last tuesday and like you i have been letting her go nappy free.Suddenly one morning before i got her dressed she came to me and said wee.Since then she's been dry in the daytime.Even took her to the shops today with no problems!
At night i always wait until having dry nappy in the morning.DD1 within a week of being dry during the day was also dry at night and she has never had a wet bed!
Congrats to your dd.

Oh, SK, that's brilliant!

(What's the book, what's the book, what's the book, what's the book?! Not that DS1 will NOT sit on the potty or anything...! )

I think if she is making good progress you should let her go nappyless all the time!

Both my DCs were toilet trained a week after their 2nd birthdays and both were reliably dry within a few days!

Once she's really got the hang of it, you'll be amazed at how quickly she can hang on for a bit longer before needing to go

thanks everyone

Hunker - the book is "My Potty Book" for girls theres also one for little boys think it was about £2 from Asda. I think it's what has done the trick. I always add lib when reading it (the story isn't up to much) saying babies have nappies, big girls use the potty. DD1 is now obsessed with the potty (we also covered it in stickers).

She is always nappyless in the house now, going out I still have her in a nappy and at night, will wait a few weeks before attempting outside nappyless, then a good few months before night time. She is still in her cot so can't get out to use a potty, I'm not in a rush to put her in a bog bed yet.

sweetkitty · 01/08/2006 21:22

bog bed - thats what the bed would end up like if she went nappyless
