Brushing 16mo teeth

My DD is 16 months and brushing her teeth is a day to day battle. She hates it. I try and brush her teeth with my finger which I think isn't effective but it's the easiest way. I have tried distractions like giving her things or asking a family member to talk to her while I try to brush her teeth.... Nothing works! HELP?!?!?!?!

Persevere - my 16 mo is exactly the same, but she is getting more used to it. I just try and get in there as quickly as poss!

I bought my 18 month old a special toothbrush which flashes when you press a button. He adores it and it has made teeth cleaning much easier. It cost me £1.85 from Waitrose-well worth the investment!

Sorry, I know this is an old thread, but I was looking for advice on teeth brushing for my 16mo and am so glad i'm not alone! We got him a childs electric toothbrush which worked for a few weeks and he loved it, but now I literally have to lie him on the floor and pin his arms down to even get close, which makes me feel evil. He cries hysterically, but I am really pedantic about teeth and I just have to make sure i've brushed them properly. I feel like he hates me while I do it, which makes me feel awful. Sad

I bought a chewable toothbrush for babies. Ds pops it straight in his mouth and chews. I also try brushing with a normal brush so he gets used to be doing it, but at least I know his teeth are getting some attention and I can make the brushing into a game rather than a necessity.

Do you brush your teeth at the same time? I find that my Dd is much more willing to do anything if I do it too.

Musical toothbrushes can help to make brushing more of a fun activity

I brush ds's teeth in the bath after milk etc. he hates it but knows he will get his dummy after it - he only has the dummy at night. Plus I still sit him on that baby bath seat, so I can easily get in and brush. Sometimes he screams, but at least I can get in there.
I have heard of a few 3/4 year olds with fillings so am hoping he learns to like it!!
