Last Tuesday John lewis messed up on our washing machine replacement which meant the nappes from the two days prior to that couldn't be washed. Now the new machine was fitted yesterday I need to wash then today. Wheat should I do differently?, they've been dry pailed all that time.

(On reflection maybe I should have rinsed then in the bath but I only just thought of that now...)

I'd say use a pre-wash or something if the machine has that option and an extra rinse after the main wash which sh

Sorry posted too soon! Main wash should be hot as you can without risking shrinkage to the nappies. HTH

Per-wash, then as hot a main wash as the nappies can take.

I'd put on a pre wash and wash as hot as your nappies will tolerate. They will probably be fine. If they come out still smelling bad whack 'em thru again, if they come out stained but smelling fine, dry them outside (easier said than done in January I know).

Never been in this situation (our washing machine packed in the day before we'd planned to go to washables, thank goodness) but a normal hot wash has always solved anything I've had to deal with!

Let me know how you get on!

Thanks everyone! I've started the wash doing a couple of extra rinses on top of the 2 that I usually do (long rinse is only 18 mins on my machine). Will do prewash n wash after but does that mean putting in soap In both drawers? Is there no risk of the nappies getting too much soap in them?

I did a similar thing with my nappies a few weeks ago. They absolutely stank. I washed them about 6 times ( in napisan, washing soda, bio washing powder, vinegar rinse, dishwasher tablets- I tried everything)with extra rinses and time out on the line (in the rain) in between. They felt very clean but the smell still lingered when they dried, though the natural fibres( hemp and bamboo) seemed to smell ok sooner. The tots bots really hung onto the smell. What finally seemed to work was 24 hours soak in 50/50 vinegar/water then hot (60) wash. I know vinegar is not always recommended for some nappies but they have survived and it was either this or bin them. This is not a mistake I will make again, that smell will stay with me forever!! Good luck.

prewash, 60 wash then a couple of rinses. Then leave on the line in the rain/snow for a week.
