When to contact the doctors about a baby's cough?

Nearly 1 year old has had a cold and cough for over 2 weeks now, the cough is chesty but she is not coughing up mucus, it's worse on a night but it's becoming worse, making her very wheezy and disturbing her sleeping, she is fine otherwise, it's her first illness and I don't want to be a bad mummy but also know how hard it is to get a doctors appointment and I don't want to waste their time?

What do you lovelies think?

I'd say you should take her.

My thresholds for GP are temp unresponsive to calpol/brufen, cough affecting breathing or causing a wheeze, getting worse after a couple of weeks.

Babies don't cough up mucus, they swallow it so you'll never see it. Without listening to the chest you won't know how bad it is.

Wheezing in a tiny baby is a big thing. Much better to get it checked. It's probably viral but can still be very nasty.

Hope she's better soon.

If you tell the receptionist your 4 week old is wheezy and you're worried, I'd be gob smacked if they didn't see you that day.

FWIW I'm a doctor too and def wouldn't see it as a waste of time.
