DD has started to get her first tooth which is great, but she wont go to sleep she is just shouting and screaming until she chokes. I have tried getting her back up, cuddles, hair strokes, lulabies (although im sure me singing to her didnt help Grin) dentinox teething gel, leaving her to cry it out. Nothing is having any effect. Any ideas?

Neldon's teetha is good or Ashton and Parsons also Anbesol liquid can numb the pain.

DaddyIsHome · 20/01/2014 20:56

Thanks guys! She is calpoled up and happier but still not asleep! At least the screaming has stopped. I will look into those other bits too to numb the pain.

Are you sure it isn't an ear infection? That can be awful when they're lying down. My just happen to have one at the same time as teething….

girliefriend · 20/01/2014 21:13

Will she take a dummy? Sometimes helps with teething pain.

WillYouDoTheFandango · 20/01/2014 21:21

Cold flannel to chew on? It's awful when they're like that and there's nothing you can do.

If all else fails throw her in the pushchair, walk to the shop and buy yourself Wine Then just transfer her to bed later.

DaddyIsHome · 20/01/2014 22:01

Telephonetree I think you might be right because she is fine sat upright just not laying down, took a dummy and some teething powder and is fast asleep, as is DPGrinnow to eat dinner and wash some bottles.

Ibuprofen (neurofen) works much better than calpol, teething powders/gels etc. Use it sparingly though due to the risk of gastric erosions.

Jackanory1978 · 20/01/2014 22:35

Nurofen not neurofen!!

RandomMess · 20/01/2014 22:36

I was going to say ear ache as well!

Go to Boots and buy some Anbesol. It's an absolute miracle worker. It's a liquid which numbs the area. That way you don't have to use as much Calpol or Nurofen so you can save those for times when it's really bad.

Just make sure you read the instructions though as you can apply Anbesol quite liberally but can't use it more than once in 4 hours (but I find it lasts for ages anyway so you probably wouldn't need to use it more than that!)
