Baby hates reusables!

Oh dear. We bought loads of reusables before LO was born, but he is only just over 8lb at seven weeks so excitedly we tried them yesterday.m

He screamed! He didn't stop until we changed him. He did have a wet and dirty nappy at that point, so we happily changed him into another one. Cue more screaming until we changed him into a disposable :-(

They weren't on too tight, but they were quite wet and seemed very hot under the waistband and tummy area (and our LO seems to dislike being warm). They were a Tot Bots and Little Lamb respectively, one with a microfibre lining and one with a fleece lining.

Anything I can do to transition him into the nappies, or should we accept that we might as well get rid? Such a shame as I'm a bit of an eco warrior at heart x

Don't think it will be too hot as I remember seeing a video on how cloth is actually cooler than disposables because cloth can breathe.
I'd try again he might just be having an off day? Two in cloth here and they have no preference on what's on their bums! But less rashes in cloth :-)

If i'm honest, i love them, but i'm not sure my DS is overly thrilled about being in cloth. He's always much more settled when he's in disposables and sleeps better at night (provided his disposable doesn't leak). I think they ARE hot and it's not helped by the moisture. We noticed it especially when he started to sit up and the thick bit of velcro around the top seemed really tight, even though you could fit at least 3 fingers in the gap when he was lying down. But i think some babies are more sensitive to moisture on their bottys.
He's also never had a rash with disposables, whereas in cloth he often gets 'trenchbum'.

I use disposables about every other day now, so at least we've halved our consumption, but it IS annoying that we spent all that money and i'm hoping when he starts crawling he'll be too busy to make a fuss about it!

I wouldn't get rid of them just yet. Give it another go in a few weeks time and see how it is.

Thanks ladies...I will try again.

I agree they do get hot, one they are wet they do feel awfully warm. Mind you the wraps pribably contribute to that. It is funny when he had them on as he looked so big around the middle!

I might try him in them a few times more, maybe during some feeds and skin to skin so hopefully he associates them with nice things!

DD got very upset in cloth because she could feel she was wet - it is better now I have abandoned the paper liners and just use fleece. I still have to change her very frequently though, so I tend to alternate between cloth and disposable.
