Am I being lazy?

DS1 is nearly 6 weeks. I'm wondering if I'm being "lazy" by leaving him in sleep suits most days. Today both nanas are here & we went out for a walk & coffee but DS remained in the sleep suit & vest (plus hat/star wrap/blanket etc - don't want you all to think I'm a negligent mum!)

To be fair he's only really started to fit in 0-3 months clothing so the cute outfits have only just started to not be massive on him.

If I know we are having "special" visitors (grandparents don't count) I'll try & put him in something cute but otherwise he wears a vest and a sleep suit all day.

& often the same sleep suit for 2 days (maybe even 3!) if there are no sick/pee/poo incidents.

Am I being lazy?? Or is this normal?

You have just given birth. Make life as simple and easy for yourself and your baby as possible!

NickyEds · 18/01/2014 18:16

My Ds is 4 weeks and I still see it a a fairly major achievement if I get into day clothes let alone him!! Sleepsuits unless it's for special. I always thought that I'd iron all of his vests and sleepsuits- that's gone out of the window!! As long as baby's clean(ish), dry and warm enough I think that'll do for now!!!

CrispyCrochet · 18/01/2014 18:20

Glad I'm normal. I agree that getting myself dressed feels like an achievement so baby can stay in sleep suits.

Also - does anyone else think short sleeve vests with pictures on are a bit pointless?! So another note to myself for future babies is no point in patterned/pictured short sleeve vests!

Most babies hate having their clothes changes so the fewer changes the better IMO - makes life easier for you and nicer for them.

toomuchtooold · 18/01/2014 18:30

Another one chipping in to say totally normal! I would go so far as to say it's better because they don't like getting changed at that age.

I agree patterned vests are pointless at this age - once mine got to about 17 months they started to notice pictures of animals etc and since then it's been worth it as they really like them and will sometimes lift their t-shirts and go "awwww!" at the picture of the cat or zebra or whatever. But up till a year old it's basically for the parents and relatives.

Only1scoop · 18/01/2014 18:34

Crispy I'm with you on the short sleeved vests....never used em either.

Wuxiapian · 18/01/2014 18:55

Not lazy at all!

mrsbug · 18/01/2014 19:33

At this time of year the short sleeved vests just go under other clothes so they might as well be plain. In summer dd wore just a vest if it was hot so cute patterned ones were nice, plus any colour other than white is better for not showing food stains, useful when you've just started weaning.

I love my baby in a baby gro, he looks so cosy and like an actual baby. Daylight will let him know night from day, not what he's wearing. He does own a couple of pairs of dungarees, and they're fine for when we need to be wearing something warm.

I have 'day' gros and 'night' gros, but he's just so squishable in a baby gro.

IShallCallYouSquishy · 18/01/2014 19:45

My DD is 20 months and if she's not feeling well or we are having an at home lazy day she wears a sleepsuit!

She wore them or vests/rompers for the first several months of her life. They're so cute and snuggley. DC2 due in 6 weeks and will be going exactly the same. Got a nice stack of new white sleepsuits for "pyjamas" and some nice patterned day ones Grin

emmak8383 · 18/01/2014 19:52

Normal. Our LO is 4 months and I only started putting her in proper clothes at about 3 months. She only wears grows at night now.
Routine is -Squaddy wash in the morning, clothes on for the day. Bath at night with pjs on for bed. Wear the same grow as pjs for a few nights provided it is fairly clean then change it.
If we are staying in then she is just in a long sleeve vest and socks. I have lots of dungarees so if we go out I just out them on over the vest she has on. Dresses with tights are cute but only if we are going out and seeing people.
It starts to get fun when they are starting to sit up and are more steady when you hold them.

V v v good idea OP.

With each baby I did this longer Smile

The thought of tiny babies in white babygros is making me feel broody Shock

gretagrape · 19/01/2014 07:13

Sleepsuits most days at 9m here, and if we need to go shopping then a pair of trousers and a jacket get put on top! Avoids that horrible cold gap between trousers and socks as well.

bigkidsdidit · 19/01/2014 07:20

My 7mo still wears them a lot. I put ds1 in proper clothes when je started crawling, as trousers have more padding on the knees. I love babies in sleepsuits and cardies!

NorthEasterlyGale · 19/01/2014 08:37

My DS1 is 19 months and still wears a sleepsuit all day if we're not going out. Although with his enthusiastic approach to food it sometimes involves a fresh one after meal times...Grin

I take the view that they help keep his feet warm (won't keep socks on easily without shoes), are comfortable and easy to move in - gives him freedom to chuck himself around without a top riding up or his jeans button sticking in his tummy.

If we go out it's generally jeans, top, cardy or coat, socks and those sodding LED shoes that light up when he walks that DH let him choose...

DisneyAddict88 · 19/01/2014 08:54

my dd is 19 months and still sometimes wears her sleep suit or pjs out for the day at least twice a week as shes last in line to get dressed for the school run!! Grin but she has some really cute animal onesies which need to be shared!! so we have gone to toddler groups etc with her in pjs!!

meisiemee · 19/01/2014 08:57

Sensible and let's face it if I could wear one all day I would!
