Ds giving up his nap - what do you do instead in that time?

At the moment I'm putting on an hour of telly so I get some peace. Any advice? He's 2.6 and won't play quietly in his room or even stay in there. We have to stay in as dd is 11 months and sleeps for a good 2 1/2 hours at lunchtime. Just wondering what others do...

can you not on different days take dd and ds out for a walk..? dd can sleep in the pram and ds can get fresh air and play at the park prehaps..?

If you are back home and dd is still asleep then leave her in her pram to sleep.?

I only have dd atm but i sometimes take her for a walk for fresh air at the time her afternoon nap usually is. Once back if she's still asleep I leave her in the hallway.

Audio books are working for me, ds 2.7 & slowly giving up naps. Ebay have quite a lot, I bought Kipper read by dawn french and Room on the Broom is hilarious (has song as well). Works better with books he knows/likes. DS v.fond of his ELC tape player as he can control it, gave him some of our old tapes (haven't actually thought to buy audio tapes, rather than cd's - I use our cd player, durrh). I often do some ironing just outside his room or sort laundry next door or something & he wanders in & out, wouldn't expect him to stay in room alone yet. Don't see what's wrong with hr of telly, am expecting ds2 in dec & think I shall be relying on it for a while. I have trained ds to certain extent to occupy himself with games e.g. postman pat deliving mail to his soft toys, as simply have to get on with housework/posting on mumsnet etc sometimes

I used to put dd in our bed to watch a video (Ususally Baby Einstein - not because I'm a smug mummy but because when ds arrived she seemed to regress and requested it all the time ) we had one of those portable TV's with integrated video. It was great because if she was tired it would lull her to sleep, and if not I still got 45 minutes of peace.

Althoug he has given up his nap he still needs 'time out' . I used to put a film on for my oldest whilst the younger one had his afternoon sleep .

He used to like me curlying up with him to watch it , also I sometimes mamged 5 mins shut eye, if not it gave me the time to do other things i. e tidy up !!
