Toddler bed or single bed?...

My ds is 18 months old and as I am 6 months pregnant I am thinking about getting him into a bed in the next few months so that his cot's free. I've already gone and bought him a lovely pair of curtains and matching single duvet cover (as he will be moving into our big spare room, I wanted to make it nice for him). Just wondering if a single duvet would be too big for a toddler bed? If so then is it ok to put such a young toddler in a single bed with a bed rail?

As my ds is a bit of a climber and I'm always finding him in the strangest of positions in his cot, I'm a bit worried about how he'll settle in a bed. Any suggestions for an easy transaction from cot to bed would be much appreciated. Thanks.

Noooooooooooo don't do it - keep him in until he's grown out of it! Do you really want a roving toddler when you've just had a baby?! If you want the answer to your question though I wish I'd bought a single bed with a bed rail. Ds was quite happy in there on holiday recently although has a toddler bed at home.

We put ds straight into a single bed with a bed rail. He's been fine so far

I'd wait until he goes bump, or at least until your new baby grows too big for a moses basket. If he's happy, it's best to have him safe rather than up in the morning on his own when you don't know what he's up to!

Don't get a toddler bed. It's a waste of money, I think. We have got a single bed that will last him ages but it's got really safe sturdy fold down legs which are folded down at the moment so the bed is practically on the floor. He loves it.

Agree with the others. Stay with the cot for as long as you can. You dont want to start having problems getting him to stay in a bed with a new baby.

Weve still got 2.2 DD in a cot even though ive bought her a bed as new baby due today, however as long as DD is safe she can stay in her cot until I really do need it for the new lo.

We got ds a single bed and a guard at 18 months as he had mastered climbing out his cot and also dh started working nights so he uses ds's bed when he comes in in the morning rather than me disturbing him when I get up have shower etc.

(ds is usually in bed with me by the time he comes in, if not he will bring him in asleep)

Learn from our mistake. Get a single bed with a bed rail. We've got a toddler bed and rail. It's fine for her but as a parent you will want to cuddle up on the bed with her and the crappy wooden slats just fall through.
